if I were you, I'd go to TJ Maxx or Marshall's and find things in the clearance sections.  A pair of socks? Is there a kitchen gadget he could use? A holiday ornament? A book? A leather journal? A wallet? They also have men's gift items and jewelry -- I would just scour the store and find a bunch of items then hone it down collectively to $50 when you're done looking.  You could find 5+ items for $10 or less easily.

Hmmmm. A nice bottle of his favorite kind of liquor, or maybe a bunch of those teeny 50ml bottles they sell at the liquor store like this:



Then you could do a flask or something with it?
