I am seriously crabby these days.

I feel like I am in a bad mood that I can't get out of. I'm not a raging b*tch or anything, but I have been impatient and touchy and just grouchy in general for the last two months or so.  It's weird, because I don't feel at all unhappy or distressed...just mildly cranky.

I am pretty sure what's causing it: I stopped taking zoloft (which I was on for 2 years for OCD/anxiety) about the same time I started feeling this way. I figured it would take some time for my body to adjust to the lack of seratonin, but it's been awhile now.

Any suggestions? I really don't want to go back to my doctor, b/c I'll end up on another SSRI, and I really don't want to be. Has anyone experienced this, or have any ideas how to get out of it? I think I am starting to annoy people

halleybird--I totally know what you are going through.  I recently had to lower the dosage of my SSRI, Paxil, and it made me the crabbiest person in the world!  I am not kidding--I was extremely irritable and would cry over the littlest things.  I'm pg now so to make matters worse, it was dificult to determine if these emotions were the hormones or from lowering the dose.  I really think it's due to the tapering of the dose b/c I went down a lot (37.5 mg to only 10 mg).  I had been crying almost daily for about the last 3 weeks and just angry at ppl in general.  I felt like such a  psycho.  Finally I convinced the doc to up the dose to 20 mgs, and I feel so much better!  It sucks that I have to take medication to not feel this way, but oh well.  As long as I'm not having those grumpy feelings, I don't care.  Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.  I would consider going back to your doctor, but I definitely understand your hesitation to do so.  How long has it been since you stopped taking the Zoloft and did you do it gradually?  Maybe you can get on it again and then taper it more gradually next time to avoid side effects.  HTH!

thanks alb...I guess I should just hang in there.

I was on a low dose (50 mg) of zoloft, so I didn't really phase it out, since it's about the lowest adult dose there is. I still have them...I am debating maybe splitting the tablets & taking 25s for awhile.
