ok ladies i am vexed with myself or more specifically i am vexed with my closet. my closets name is ray-ray fabu.  yes i have named my closet, i am a sick sick girl.  i feel like my closet is a person. usually a friendly person with a sassy attitude and whimiscal ideas, but  sometimes a selfish know it all that only plays if she gets to make the rules.  right now my closet is my enemy.  why you ask?  because i have shopped to the point of conspicueus consumption but i still don't have anything to wear!! tons of clothes, pants, shoes, dresses, jackets and tees and every morning i am bored or confused with it all. from designer to vintage to target's irresitable cheapie finds i feel like nothing is spectacular, hell forget spectacular i'd just settle for cool.   ok i am complaining and whinging and moaning about nothing but tell me i am not alone here.    ray-ray give up the goods! give me back my style ms. fabu. *sigh* ray-ray is smirking right now.  she knows she's got me in the land of bb's (that's the land of boring basics) she knows she's winning. help. when the closet wins what's a girl to wear???

Well said!  This is hilarious.  I feel the same way most of the time.

OMG I know that feeling.  Right now my closet hates me.  I tried the layered tee look today and I'm embarassed to post the picture in my thread style posts! Everything is boring and bland right now on me and none of it fits which makes boring and bland look even worse and makes me look huge! I want spring to come.  I have much better spring and summer clothes. I really need to go to target too and get some cute & cheap stuff!

LOL- hilarious. you need to fight that sucker and not him/(her?) get the best of you! when i'm feeling like this, i like to do a MAJOR clean out/reorganization... You'll feel better when you purge the stuff that you know you'll never wear and pull out some hidden gems... good luck!

*moan* i purged my closet about a month/two months ago. then i binged shopped all through febuary.  and now i feel like i am losing fashion perspective. i realized this evening i actually do not own a hoodie. . .when did i get rid of all my fuzzy/cozy hoodies to wear under blazers???. i swear ray-ray is eating them. argh!

i have a lot of things for winter and summer but i just don't feel good about anything.  if my husband could see this post he would kill me. my credit cards say i have MORE then enough of everything but i just can't find anything. ray-ray is hiding things from me and laughing at my confusion. (by the way ray-ray is a girl although at one point she was a gay man who said FAB all the time. . .hmmmm i think i need thearpy)

dewdk, I love how you put your relationship with ray-ray! I feel your pain, but the way you put it just made me laugh and now people are looking at me weirdly...

I think my closet and I have a dysfunctional relationship too...mine refuses to get rid of silly t-shirts, old craphole clothing and shoes I can look at but never have the opportunity to wear. And I'm in love with a few of my things...but sometimes I never have the right top for a certain occasion, am forced to run out for it and then, well, yeah...I have a ton of crapola in my closet.

I am THISCLOSE to posting pictures of my entire closet on ST and making you girls tell me to get rid of things.

hey! I'm so glad you are back!

and your post was hilarious...hm hm hm..I was laughing for a good 10 minutes.

I'm having this same issue right now. I've been trying to look at different mags to see if I could get some ideas. Another thing that is really bothering me is that I feel like my personal style of all over the map.

I have some really cool vintage pieces, some preppy, some really girly, some boho etc etc. It makes it hard to put outfits together ...I'm not really trying to do the preppy-boho-vintage chic (as if it could even be called chic)  it's like pick a style and run with it why don't cha ya.

I don't have any good answer for ya...but really I feel your pain.

ok so i thought i'd update you one my pyscho relationship with ray-ray my closeted gay-transgendered closet. i feel like she/he (ray-ray) allowed me to make it through the summer by the skin of my teeth fashion wise.  i occasional verged into the boring basics but otherwise i managed to maintain a sexy simple summer vibe.  thank god ray-ray stopped me before i over loaded on the boho look.  i actually bought four large circlely boho belts in one day, hung them on my "belt hanger" in the closet and went out for some sangria with friends. when i got home late that night woozy from the sangria the belts were on the floor and i tripped over them.  i took it as a sign that four boho belts does a fashion victim make and returned two of them. i personally belive ray-ray took grave offense to my boho belt overdose and kicked them out of her/his closet...but i was tipsy before i left for the summer afternoon sangria so it might have been me who threw them on the floor in confused dash for the door. either way i choose to belive that it was ray-ray to the rescue. . .faster then a sample sale more powerful then a black amex card it is ray-ray the super closet.

so now with much respect of ray-ray's personal space and cautious opptimisim i approach the fall season with ray-ray at my side and a new credit card and bonus from my job to burn.  i say bring on the cashmere i say hello to tweed i embrace velvet and suede and sexy slouchy sweaters. . .and when i get out of control i trust ray-ray to save me from myself.  because if your closet can't save you then we are all in big trouble.

Oh my god, your posts made me laugh out loud.  And yes, four boho belts does a fashion victim make.

I think you need to tell ray-ray who's boss.  I'm a big fan of making lists.  I make lists of things that I absolutely NEED and things that I don't NEED need, but things that I'd like to incorporate into my wardrobe for the next season.  And I don't buy anything unless it's been on the list for a week or two to avoid impulse purchases, and I don't go shopping without my list.  Pull out pics from magazines and post them in a bulletin board in ray-ray to give you ideas of what to wear.  I think you'll start winning the war soon.

P.S.--I'm going to have to seriously consider naming my closet now.

i have actually started doing this list thing as well.  i have a huge "look book" of clipped mag pics for clothes, home, and etc.  i developed a plan in regards to my look for fall.  for work it is velvet and tweed with ladylike miss moneypenny precision.  for play it is fitted jeans, knee high boots and slouchy sweaters. if you see my post of fall musts and purchases most items fall in that catagory.  the fall must list is actually a list i've been working on for about two weeks.  and i've seriously tried not to buy something NOT on the list. i have TONS of clothes so I only want stuff i LOVE or that finish a look. i've browsed online and i've gone to the stores and tried on only the items i looked at online.  i have enough basics in regards to shoes, pants and skirts so ray-ray approves, thank god.

p.s. naming your closet is a big move.  take your time and don't have any cursewords in the title, despite any level of frustration you may feel. naming your closet is a power move once you name something it truly becomes real.  (hee hee hee imagine me saying above statement in sensi voice "little grasshopper.")
