ttara123 posted this dress in this past weekend shopping thread and it made me think of an outfit I saw awhile back (can't remember where).  It was a plaid strapless dress (wool?) worn over either a turtleneck or longsleeve buttonup shirt.  I am thinking about trying that look, but I don't want to be a fashion victim.  What do you think of it?  I am usually a conservative dresser (blazers, trousers, skirts, sweaters) and love to try different color combinations, but I am ready to try something a little different.  Here is the dress:

I've seen that sort of look on a couple people. I'm on the fence about it - I don't love it or hate it

I'm sorry but I'm NOT a fan of that look. I just think it's really dated. but that's just one girls opinion.

This also my opinion.  It reminds me of an outfit Rachel wore on Friends which was obviously a REALLY long time ago.  JMO.

I like this dress, with a blue, green, yellow, purple jacket or bomber and some unique tights with boots.

I like the dress and the plaid can be current right now.  I'd try it

If it were me, I would try the white shirt, but probably not the t-neck.

French Connection Women's Cherub Check Plaid Strapless Dress

This isn't a great picture - but in the Bloomie's Fall catalog, this outfit looked really good - reminded me of this thread.

Thanks everyone so much for you input and thanks for that picture sydney. I love that.  I had about decided to abandon the idea until I saw that pic.

i think it's a cute look but it depends on your body's proportions. It could look awful on a girl who's stacked (just too much going on) but supercute on a girl with only a little boobage.

I think it is an adorable look.  I might could get away with that myself because only a little boobage describes me.biggrin

i think it could really look cute on the right person and with the right peices. i saw a picture in the mos recent cosmo magazine of an outfit like this and it was adorable. they used two solid colors, black for the dress and gray for the top underneath. make sure it's a thin turtleneck otherwise it'll look way too bulky.

The silhouette reminds me of Victoria Beckham, but not necessarily the plaid...  I like it though.

The look can be cute, but sometimes kinda awkward if you don't pull it off right. I saw that dress in person and was not a fan, it reminded me too much of something juvenile, like a Catholic school uniform. I'd like to see it with a solid color.
