Advice on Duvet Cover
Permalink Closed

I am moving (AGAIN, long story).  The new apt has cranberry carpeting and the landlord wont let us remove them.  The walls are a cream color but I might paint them, not sure what color yet.  I have black-brown furniture and neutral accessories.  I am looking for a duvet cover but am worried that nothing will go with cranberry!

I am loving this, will it clash?

Normally, I'd love to do the walls a pale blue but I think that wouldn't go with cranberry.  Maybe I can add some pink throw pillows to blend w the rugs?  What about paint?  Any advice??  I hate cranberry!

I think gray and cranberry could work really well together...

You could paint the walls gray with white trim (darker or lighter gray than the duvet) and add accessories to tie in the cranberry:
Color PalettesLumimarja pomegranate and gold

I think the combo of brown, black and cranberry could be stunning -- possibly brown walls, black frames on artwork, cranberry throw pillows and decorative items (vases, etc.)

Ok I think I am color blind... I thought this was brown! I went to the store and realized its steel gray and def didn't look so hot. D thanks for your suggestions, I don't think gray is "me" though. I feel silly! Back to the drawing board...blush.gif

Moving AGAIN! Well, at least you're getting good at it.

Cranberry is pretty neutral in that it generally goes with warm colors or cool colors, but I think I'd stay on the warm side like mocha/latte, taupe and khaki. You could try metallic gold/brass tones too, or just a wee bit of animal print. I like the suggestion of black accents but I wouldn't go with pink.

Light blue and cranberry can go together, but it tends to be more of a traditional/provincial/country look than I think you want. What about sage green? This another fairly traditional combo, but I notice that PB's rugs often put these colors together:

Whereas Horchow often mixes reds with golds:

I ended up finding this gold/cream DKNY duvet instead.  Much more me, I'm more warm and golden!

Only thing that sucks is I realize that the carpet is less cranberry and more dusty pink.  UGH!  Am wondering what the hell color I can paint the walls that will look OK against a pink floor.

I know this is durastic, but have you thought about BIG area rugs? I know they sometimes look funny on carpet, but it might be better than living with dusty pink!

I have known people who have had to work with pink tile in the bathroom, and a warm taupe can work surprisingly well with it as it tones down the pink.

it looks like you already have a taupy trim going on in your duvet border, so it could tie in well with that...

from shirwin-williams.com:

so let's say the carpet is a rose color.  see how these work together?

D - great idea !

I was toying around with paints on designmyroom.com and was trying taupe as well, it looks good but I was worried it'd be too serious. The way you put it together, everything looks chic, neat and feminine. I'm buying paint today so this definitely made up my mind.

Thanks!
