love seat recommendation?

Does anyone know a good place to get upholstered furniture that isn't too fluffy looking?  I want something more on the modern end but not too modern.  Our apt. is pretty small so I don't want it to be longer than 60" max.  We also are hard on our furniture so it has to be a darker color.  I've checked wal-mart, ikea, and target and these are the kinds I like but arent quite right:

kind of like that rust one above..

Or if you have suggestions from personal experience..

I guess under $500 (the cheaper the better..) since it's a shared place.

If you want good quality for that price, I recommend checking Craigslist in your area. The sofas you found from KMart and Target are not good quality -- they will fall apart, the fabric will rip, etc. with hard use. You're better off, I think, with second-hand. Maybe someone is looking to unload a love-seat or a couple of comfy chairs?
ETA: unless you want to go the IKEA route and have a sofa for a year or two with the intention of throwing it out after -- that's another option.

I don't have many suggestions, other than seeing if you have a hotel furniture liquidations place around - they have inexpensive stuff that could work after a shampoo and maybe w/a fitted slipcover.

Actually, you might consider going with something without wood on the arms so it could be slipcovered either right away or in the future if the fabric gets worn/stained.

Have you checked Pier 1 or World Market?  IMO their stuff is decent quality for the price:

407954_paris_sleeper_sofa_v1?$278x278_Detail_Image$$629 (this one is also a sleeper)

Pier one doesn't have much on their website anymore, but there's more in store:

Overstock

Homereserve.com has always interested me.  They have sofas, loveseats, chairs, sectionals, ottomans, & throw pillows for super cheap, you pick the fabric but you have to put it together once it's shipped to you.

There all 11 different styles in the loveseats and they start at $239.  I counted 105 different fabric/color options.

Modern Sofa Monroe Style Drawing
Loveseats Boston Style Drawing
Discount Loveseats Aspen Style Drawing
Ranger Twill Pesto Avenue Loveseat
Milky Way Bronze Avenue Loveseat
Pulse Smoke Avenue Loveseat
Pulse Brown Avenue Loveseat

Elle- I love that first one!  Ugh- we have no world markets in NY to look at it in person!  Has anyone seen it in person?

Craigslist is what we've used in the past and w/no car in NYC, it is always a challenge- have to arrange a mover, etc.  Also, bedbugs are a HUGE problem here and we're always risking it when we buy upholstery, etc.  So even though quality may be better and price cheaper secondhand, we might have to buy new for convenience.

Oh the challenges of NYC sometimes!

I didn't realize you're in NYC (I am too). I completely agree w you about the bedbugs -- they're one of my nightmare scenarios. For ease of delivery, I'd recommend Pier 1 -- there are several stores (3rd Ave & 87 St. or around 15th & 5th) where you can see the product before you purchase it. The quality seems fine. Target has some good slipcovers, too.

did you try Jennifer Convertibles? They have some fairly non-fluffy, more modern but not too modern pieces and their prices are reasonable.

Try Three chairs company.

I LOVE their store. I walk down there on my lunch from time to time. Very modern, and seems to be great quality. They have a lot of upholstry options too.

Actually, I missed the price range you are shooting for on my first read. This place won't likely have anything for around $500.

I think that zgallerie has amazing furniture and it is usually in the more affordable range - do yuo have one of those in NY?

I also love world market - DH and I have a few things from them that have been great.

And I actually can also recomend urban outfitters too, I have a funky loveseat from them that is amazing and I thought the price was fabulous too...

14506158_46_b?$detailmain$ Urban outfitters $480

14535546_80_a?$cat$ $550

I wouldn't do Jennifer. I ordered a set from them once and it was supposed to be delivered in 6 weeks. Yeah, it took 3 months. The quality wasn't good at all either. After three years it wasnt' even worth donating. It was total garbage.

I'd look at pier one too. I have a few things from them and the quality and style is good for the price.
