please define matchy-matchy
Permalink Closed

I have read a couple of discussions where "being too matchy-matchy" has been discussed.  Now I am wondering if I am too matchy-matchy.  Could someone define for me or give me examples of outfits that are "matchy-matchy"?  In my mind I get the idea of what it is, but when I look at outfits I am now thinking, is that too "matchy-matchy".  I hope you don't think I am crazy, but I would really like to know.

To me matchy-matchyness occurs when your bag, belt and shoes match. And they all
match your earrings. I guess the idea is to wear complimentary colors. Look at the thread style section. None of them are matchy-matchy. They are inspirational, yes, matchy-matchy, no.

hummm... maybe some visual examples?

Main Image and matching bag

or, twin sets sometimes look too m-m

or, bag matching shoes, or even just getting an entire "look" from one line (for example, an entire Gap look, or Banana, etc.)

Of course, there are sometimes when m-m look really cute and 'works', so... I'm not sure I've even been helpful at all...

matchy matchy IMO is wearing a red sweater, jeans and matching red boots, and red jewelry...

It's kinda funny cuz recently I had a phobia of being MM and I went to the opposite side of the extreme.  When I'd come home and get a good look at my outfit, I'm like, "Ew."

I am totally the same way, whenever I get my Lucky each month, I try to copy the more eccentric, unexpected, and totally cute style. But what I end up with is fashion victim!
