Need help with BM dress for wedding this weekend...
Permalink Closed

Here's my MOH dress except the bodice has a little more room in mine (I think it's called a shelf bodice?) and mine is in black.

Here are the rules:
no color and no yellow gold

white gold, silver, etc. is okay
black sparkly is okay

I've also recently found out the bride is giving us pearl bracelets as BM gifts, so we'll be wearing those. I don't know the details of the bracelet though: strand of pearls, single pearl, black pearl, etc.

I have a strand of Mikimoto pearls I could wear. I also have a double strand of black pearls (not real but good fake). I was planning on wearing a beautiful, vintage black beaded, metal necklace I have but now I'm not sure if it's too much. I'll post a pic of the necklace tomorrow morning (don't have one on this computer).

I tried these on at Tiffany's this weekend but I don't think I can justify the expense for a wedding, although I'd love to:

Elsa Peretti with pearl
(I have the matching ring) - $325 or
Elsa Peretti pendant (could wear everyday) - $160 or
Heart cap pendant - $250

Any ideas or suggestions? I've perused the malls and boutiques and found nothing. Mainly it's just because I don't know what type of jewelry to wear with the dress. I'd love some help. No, I NEED some help!! hmm

Not to confuse you, but I tend to think strapless dresses look best without necklaces. They're like a frame for your beautiful neck and shoulders; why gild the lily?

Depending on how you do your hair, consider drop earrings and a cocktail ring instead (plus the bracelet).

That's definitely an option. I have long hair and I'll be wearing it down. And I have plenty of pretty, dangly earrings (and all other kinds actually) that would go with the dress. The only consideration I have with that is that I have blonde hair and am fairly pale. I was thinking a necklace might look nice to break up the starkness between black and fair, if you know what I mean. But I'm open to a bare neck too.

I think you're okay with a necklace as long as the length is okay. Not too choker-ish and close to the neck and not to close to the bodice. So, somewhere about half-way? I would probably see if you can wait till you get the bracelet (or ask the bride) to see if you can stick with what you have already.

It took me awhile to upload my old phots (damn camera connectors!) but here's the necklace I'd originally planned on wearing:

Sorry for the big pic (oh and my hair is blonde now).

But the bride told me the bracelet is a strand of white pearls with a tiny bit of a pinkish hue. Can't get away with the necklace, can I?

I think the necklace would be a bit too much for the dress. Earrings would probably be best.

I agree - the necklace is pretty, but save it for another dress.
