Uggh! Nursery room decorating
Permalink Closed

So I haven't been here much lately b/c I've been spending my free time at work obsessively trying to pick out bedding for the baby's crib.  We don't have the crib yet, but I've found that the bedding seems to be more of a challenge right now.  I'm having a hard time finding something for a baby girl's room that isn't over the top frilly, lacy, English country looking, etc. or just blah.  So far I've found these:

the happy bugs collection at PBK, but unfortunately it's sold out indefinitely (although I'm on several waiting lists):

http://ww2.potterybarnkids.com/index.cfm?cid=thmbgg&area=gft

I also kind of like this, but I don't know:

http://www.landofnod.com/landofnod/category.asp?catalog%5Fname=Land+of+Nod+Version+1&area%5Fname=Baby&Page=2&site%5Fmode=mode%5Fmain&category%5Fname=Baby%5FBedding&subcategory%5Fname=Baby%5FCrib%5FBedding

Then I guess I can forego the whole baby look and choose this by Dwell, which I could use for my next child no matter what the gender is (the color shown is not as cute, to get a better look go back one screen and view the other colors, I'd get the purple):

http://www.landofnod.com/landofnod/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=land+of+nod+version+1&area%5Fname=baby&beddingset%5Fname=Bedding%5FSet%5FDwell%5FDots%5FCrib&site%5Fmode=mode%5Fmain&category%5Fname=Baby%5FBedding&subcategory%5Fname=Baby%5FCrib%5FBedding

Of course, I will keep looking but this is all that I've found that I like thus far.  What are your thoughts?  Any other ideas on where I could find cute crib bedding?  Thanks in advance!

(Edited to change the second link)

hands down, i vote for the dwell. i don't even have to look at the other two. i love the dwell bedding for babies. it's such a sweet, sophisticated, modern look. if i ever have another baby this is the bedding i will be getting.

i actually made the bedding for my first because i couldn't find ANYTHING to suit my taste so i know what you're going through. i looked and looked and looked until my eyes dried out. sewing while 8 months pregnant wasn't fun, but the bedding turned out to my satisfaction.

oh, good luck!

Thanks, hotcocoa, that helps.  Hmm, I like the look of the dwell too, but I am struggling with ideas on how I can make the rest of the room look cute and imaginative with it.  I definitely like the idea of something streamlined and modern though, and it definitely is more "hip."

I admire you for sewing your own bedding for your first baby.  I definitely don't have the knowledge or patience to do that!  Thanks for your help.

Any other ideas?

Ooh, I looked at more dwell bedding sets and found this as well:

I think I might like that better than the circles.  I love birds (am not crazy about the pink though)!

the name "happy bugs" makes me want to have a baby myself.

i like the pink birds one you posted the best, i think.  i have also seen something very similar to that eiffel tower one in a pottery barn kids catalog--do you have the catalog? they have a much more vast array of that stuff in the kid-specific catalog than they do online or in the stores.

also, have you checked ikea and/or target? i know you can't shop online at ikea, but i have seen some cute modern-looking baby sheets in the stores before.  their "baby girl" stuff is not too prissy-looking.

are you set on pink? because i think this one is very sweet...

update:  hey! someone just posted in the general chat that they are now carrying baby bedding at baby gap! it's pretty cute--i like this pink one, but it might be more foo-foo than you want...

I love the Dwell sets.  All of them.  Have you seen this one?  Sweet, hip, and NOT pink!

I like these two together and I'd like to see a graphic dot pattern with it, but I couldn't find one in black.  That stripe is black, isn't it?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Farrah--thank you so much for doing an ebay search for me.  I didn't even think about that b/c this stuff is so new.  $650 is outrageous though and I really just need two of the items listed.  I'll check the listing when I get home to see if I can buy them piecemeal--my work won't let me click on the link (it's forbidden).

Bumblebee--I'm glad you like the birds and thanks so much for posting about the baby gap.  I'm def. going to check that out.  I don't really want pink, but the birds don't bother me so much and I can't really get the baby blue b/c she is a girl and "technically" blue is for boys.  Uggh.  I don't know if I really care about those little rules though!  I would love it if that pattern came in light purple/lilac.

ejc - I have seen that one and like it, thanks.  I think that the color would clash with my green walls though b/c my walls are kind of a honeydew color and it wouldn't look right, unfortunately.

FP - That one is one of my other contenders.  I would rather the color be a nice lavender, b/c I think that would go better with my light green walls, but I still think that one is cute and the pink in that one doesn't bug me that much.  And yes, I believe the stripe is black.  Quick question--you said you'd like to see a graphic dot pattern with it, do you mean in the same color or black?  Also, do you mean that you would mix all 3 patterns?  I'm intrigued by your suggestions/ideas!

UGH Another psycho mom here looking for the Happy Bugs bedding set.

I even called PBK in Rhode Island so my friend can ship it out for me, and they are sold out as well.

I'm doing a butterfly theme, so if you or anyone else sees some butterfly themed crib sets, please post them.

I meant that I would like to see a graphic dot in the black with it or even a smaller scale black dot print.  I love three patterns mixed together, two as the main focus and the third as an accent.  I think pink and black or even pink and brown would look nice with green walls.   You have to take a picture of the finished product (so all of us non-preggos can live vicariously thru you)

Thanks FP for the ideas and I will post a pic of the final product (although you all will probably hear form em before then)!

Yes, karina, I've called a bunch of stores and they are sold out nationwide.  Apparently the bedding was only a 13 week buy and they did not expect it to do so well.  I was told that more might come in in April or May though, and my name is on a few waiting lists, so you might want to consider that.  I'll let you know if anything comes through.  This bedding/nursery decorating stuff is making me crazy!!

If anyone else has any other ideas, I would love to hear them.  I am leaning towards something modern or minimalist, like dwell, but I would like it to be lavender and none of the patterns in dwell are that color.

ALB- We are decorating modern for a little girls nursery. This issue of Fit Pregnancy had a great article with a modern nursery and a traditional little girls nursery in it. I stole a lot of ideas from it. I will list the ideas we are using.   This is a picture of how we are doing our nursery. And the article is pasted below.   Click the view article link.

Good sites: http://ww2.westelm.com/cat/pip.cfm?template=8grid&pkey=cfrnsto&gids=p008&cid=frnsto&area=shp   ( in white-- we found something very similar at Target for much less though)

http://www.davidnettodesign.com/content.php?mode=collection   (this nursery furniture is so beautiful but very expensive. Get a catalogue to get ideas though. The whole site is kind of neat...check it out. We found very similar, but not the same quality, at Ikea)   The site has TERRIFIC links to all kinds of hip magazines articles

We bought the same Ikea chest in the photo and the rug below at IKEA but now since we know it is a girl, I think I might just want to do pink, red, white and oranges

We went on vacation last June to D.C. so we stopped at Ikea and bought the crib, mattress, the striped rug, a cool glowy lamp, the chest, a neat metal bulletin board for photos and the mobile. We didn't know the sex but knew we wanted a modern nursery. We don't have an Ikea near by so we just bought the basics....I think all that was under $450. We didn't know when we would get back to an Ikea.  The after the m/c, hubby just put it all in the basement b/c it is still in the boxes.

I haven't really thought about the nursery again and kinda feel silly for having all that but know all we have to do is get the little things and find a glider that isn't hideous. I don't think we will buy anything else or take the furniture out of the boxes or find the fabric until we get a picture of her and have a match but it is always fun to talk about it and hunt for modern baby stuff cause it is really hard to find.

Have fun today!!
