For the past few nights I hear a strange sound coming from somewhere in my room.  It sounds like a drill or that sound of the internent connecting.  I thought it was static from my clock/radio so I unplugged it but I still hear it.  I have no clue where it's coming from.  And I only seem to hear it late at night. It's sooooooooooooo weird. It comes and gos every so often but eventually stops and of course it always happens after my roomate is asleep so I can't have her come listen.  Maybe I have a ghost?

Really!?
Wake your roommate up next time so you have a witness, that way you wont feel so wierd being the only one hearing it.

When I lived in my town home I used to hear moving and scratching noises in my bedroom. My husband and I dont sleep together (he snores) . It went on for a while and then I finally called my husband up in the middle of the night on the cell phone, I sleep with mine and his is next to him too and he came up, but of course when he got there the noise stopped! No one believed me! I had my husband and a friend come over the next day and move my bed and everything around looking for mice poop or anything of that sort, and Nothing.
O.k, make a long story short, ... it was a possum (is that how you spell it?) in the attic.
At one point I thought it was a ghost too, stupid me huh!

Good luck!

Do you have external computer speakers on your computer?  I have a set that I have to turn off every night when I go to bed because they will make strange noises during the night.  Try that if you have some.

I had a similar problem. It turned out to be my radio. Even though it's unplugged and there's no power going to it, electricity in the air can cause strange noises. Sometimes having my cell phone near the radio makes it do it too. It's actually pretty creepy, like I'm getting messages from the mother ship. Try taking the radio out of your room and see if you still hear the noises.

We have the same problem!! It sounds like something in the walls, but we can't figure out what it is. We set mouse traps and haven't found anything.

I have it too. It freaks me out. I'm telling myself it is just the heater though...

That is SO funny b/c I had something like this happen to me ~1 week ago.  I was laying in bed reading when I heard this vibrating noise - my b/f was out working at a coffee bar.  It was SO freakly.  It got louder and louder and when I touched the ceiling I could actually feel something vibrating.  I called my b/f to come home b/c I was totally freaked out.  Of course by the time he came home the noise was gone.  I guess my upstairs neighbor was doing something freaky that involved vibrating his entire apartment and in turn vibrating mine?!  It hasn't happend since, but I though I was being abducted by aliens or something.

These posts reminded me of a really funny story (well, now it's funny!)

When I was younger, I had two of my girlfriends over to spend the night.  My dad was working late and wouldn't be home until really late at night.  Well, of course, we decided to start telling scary stories.  Well, I guess I was a little too skilled at this.  I decided to play a joke on them and started telling them about shapes I was seeing coming out of the closet.  I got into major details all about them on the ceiling and coming towards us, etc.  Well, not only did I totally freak my friends out, but myself as well!  We were all too scared to get off the bed, turn off the light or do anything!  I ended up calling my dad and asking him to come home early because we were so scared!

I still can't believe I was able to scare myself that bad!

I have also  been hearing a strange sound at night . just when I start to fall asleep I hear it and it wakes me up. it's this whooshing sound, like when a cd player starts up. Or the sound th tv makes when you first turn it on. I can never find where the sound is coming from. creepy! I hope you find where your sound is coming from.

Gruiz is right.  This happens.  I noticed weird sounds in my bedroom, where I have lots of electric things, including clock radio, a stereo box, a tv, a cordless digital phone and an air purifier.

Another culprit of noises, at least in my house, was my water cooler, it makes a creepy creaking sound that I only notice at night when everything is quiet.  The sound obviously goes away when I unplug.

a lot of the time noises like this come from your heating system.  at least that's what i tell myself the tapping noises I hear all day and night are coming from.  it's really annoying.

OT, but I live in an apartment building and my upstairs neighbor vacuums like once a week at 2:30 in the morning!  it sounds like they are vaccuming MY apartment.

This is a really funny topic!

I kept hearing people walk on my ceiling, above my bed. But I live on the 3rd floor of a 3 story building! It was like the roof was creaking as someone paced up there. I swore up and down I had a ghost. Then one day I decided to try to get to the roof and see if there was a way for people to walk around. Turns out there's a little area with a door right above my apt/bedroom area where the air conditioning units are and you can hang out up there. It's not roomy but it's kinda cool. So there actually WERE people walking above my bed.

When I go to my parents' house I always hear strange noises at night. It freaks me out. I can go from sleep of the dead to wide awake in 1 second flat. Usually the air conditioner is blowing something around in the room though, like a plastic bag or tissue paper from a gift or something. It's a recent discovery, and my mom wakes up in the mornings to all these things sitting outside my bedroom door because I've gotten up in the middle of the night to move them out. It's actually pretty funny. Luckily I don't visit very often so we all stay happier.
