Gift shopping with your guy, thoughts?
Permalink Closed

How do you girls feel about picking out presents for your guy to give you? My boyfriend and I have been together for over 3 years, and he's gotten me some wonderful gifts, but lately, he's gotten pretty lazy about shopping for stuff for me. Anytime an occasion comes up, he asks me to email him links to things I want or just go shopping with him. Admittedly, I have returned some of his gifts, so maybe he's thinking that there's no point in searching for something I might like when I'll probably exchange it for something else. But still - I love the anticipation of having no idea what I'm getting and knowing that he's spending time picking out stuff for me. I hope I don't sound horribly selfish and bratty, but I sometimes wish he would be a little more romantic about the whole gift giving process.

I have to tell my boyfriend exactly what I want for chirstmas, birthday, anniversary, whatever- I send him links to what I want. It is just easier that way. I tell him, he buys it and then I don't have to bother returnig it if it not something I want or the wrong size.

I hate it it when I get the tiffany box on occasion..  I know that tiffany usually means that he didn't know what to get me, and he ends up going to tiffany as a last resort.

Usually, I keep wish lists in multiple websites.  Friends, family and SO know what websites I have wish lists in, in case they don't know what to get me.  This way I know that I'll like my gifts and there's still that element of surprise (I have a lot in my lists )

My friends and I just started doing this so we'd know what to get each other for b-days and holidays.  Its just so much easier to do this.  My one friend and I in particular have gone crazy at amazon and our lists are over 100 items but mine is not just amazon.  They have links on there to sephora, urban, nordstrom, etc so it covers all the areas.

My friends and I keep lists at whattoget.net.  It just makes life so much easier, especially when you have been friends or in a relationship with someone for years...you run out of ideas!

i know EXACTLY what you mean.  the only tiffany's boxes i've ever gotten were from guys that obviously did not know enough about me to pick out something meaningful.  this was especially apparent w/ my last bf whom i spent hours on picking out things i knew he would love.  i got him several gifts (this was for xmas), some small, some bigger, but i felt like i put a lot of thought into it.  when i got the signature blue box though, i was excited but kinda disappointed.  it showed me he didn't know me at all (especailly because i don't wear jewelry, ever).  sorry, i don't have much to say in response to this post, but joina's comment just struck a chord w/ me!

My bf usually gives me gift cards to my favorite stores because 1.) he never knows what to get me and 2.) I'm very, very picky. It just makes things easier for both of us. However, from time to time I do wish that he'd surprise me with something nice that he picked out.

Nice to know that I'm not the only one with a seemingly unimaginative boyfriend! I'm definitely going to try out the wish list thing next time. Thanks girls!
