So I had these malaria pills I was supposed to start taking like 3 days ago for my trip to Brazil. I just remembered today. Should I take all the ones I missed right now or should I just start taking one a day now?

girl! what day are you leaving?  no - do not make up by taking all the missed ones now - they are not like BC pills lol - start taking one a day now.  They contain inactive malaria to help you build an immunity - I would't take more than one a day. How many do you have? 7?

I'm leaving on Friday and I was supposed to take em for the week before I leave, the time I'm there, and the week after I get back. So I guess I'll just start now. Oops. I'm not too worried, some of my friends who have travelled in South America a lot say that they don't even bother taking malaria pills.

some people from my college went to africa for a three month course...  and the professor and one student got malaria. 


please don't listen to the advise of those friends.

No, I'm still gonna take them and I didn't mean to forget, but I'm just not super worried. This guy I know spent last semester in Africa and got malaria twice while he was there. I realize it does happen, but I've also been told that the medecine is only kinda effective and the best prevention is to avoid getting bit by mosquitoes.

I can't remember how many I took for my Amazon trip - if you start taking them now, you'll probably be fine.  JUST STAY AWAY FROM ANY EXPOSURE TO THE WATER while you're there! I was sick for around 4 months after I got back - I would eat and my stomach would instantly start cramping - I got to a point where I was afraid to eat... just be careful - my biggest mistake was ice in drinks - even if it's at a hotel and it's their water reserve don't do it...

oh - and insect repellant with deet is good to wear at all times in the jungle.  I like skintastic spray - it's not all filmy nasty like other repellants.
