Help with Halloween costume!
Permalink Closed

So this year I was thinking of being a 50's "Stepford" housewife.  I picked up the pattern below for the full skirted dress.  Is it 50's?  Any fabric suggestions?  What about accessories, hair & makeup?

My hair is short so I was thinking of flipping it out like the picture below.

My hair idea:
Classic 50's Flip Wig (Brown)

I love your idea!  I'd wear that dress, and not as a costume.  For fabric I'd lean toward a shantung maybe?  What about gloves too?

Only suggestions I'd have is wear pearls and maybe an apron. Just the dress alone could be anything in that era (maybe Jackie O)?

I agree an apron would really add to it, especially in a retro print. I just got an adorable one from etsy. They are pricey for a halloween costume but if you would ever use one in real life it would be worth it. They have lots that are retro inspired. Something like this http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=15037688 maybe?

Since you're sewing the costume, maybe you could make a white, ruffled half-apron with some applique to match the pattern of your dress.

I'd go for a loud floral silk to scream stepford wife.
