This is such craziness. I agree with you 100% D, any press they got was not from anyone trying the samples at all.

I write for a beauty blog and in dealing with PR people, they usually send samples like water, or if they can't they will try to hype up the product and educate you. I can't imagine that anyone in the industry would have the nerve to get so snotty over samples, all she had to to was say "I'm sorry we don't supply any at this time, why don't you read this release, they're available at x y and z"

I can't imagine ANYONE sending emails FROM WORK saying things like "Are you stupid?" - I would be tempted to email your correspondence to the general email address at the company. I have worked with a lot of fashion snobs but they would at least have the brains not to ruin their own reputation.

believe it or not, these e-mails are from THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY!!

I'm not a skinny jean person, but I can certainly see how these could have serious mom jean potential.  I never manage to return things, so there they'd sit in my closet waiting for mom jeans to be in style wink

Oh my gosh. How awful. I cannot believe she has gotten this far if she is this rude and clueless!

And how STUPID after you just told her how you have a platform you can use to spread information about a company!

Well, if that's her picture on the skinnyjeans website, she doesn't look like a very happy person... the crossed arms in her picture are not making her look very personable.

I know! it's certainly not hard to put that face with that correspondence.  being the googler that I am, she claims she has a law degree (from a california university I can't remember), and that that the idea of the jeans came to her when she was getting ready for a "party in the hamptons" -- gratuitous, most likely false, and unnecessary information.  I think everything she says is probably a line of bs.

I think the jeans are a great idea. And from what I read they sold out after a mention in O magazine.  Quite simply, she needs to hire a professionally polished individual with experience in the fashion industry, because if she continues to manage and represent her company it's on a fast track to failing.

word of mouth is the most powerful advertising out there, and she's doing everything to make sure it perpetuates the demise of her company.

I'd tell her this, but I honestly think she has a personality disorder and she would never listen to me (if her emails serve as any indication.)  I'm sure she probably thinks she is right and everyone else is wrong.

Wow, I can't believe that she was so rude. Although my understanding was always that most (or many) of the clothing that magazines use in their shoots were samples that they were responsible for returning. Obviously this isn't the case with beauty products but I thought most clothing was usually just on loan. At least that's what I've gathered from all those stories about celebs walking off with stuff from magazine shoots which the magazines are then responsible for replacing. And all the garment bags being sent back to designers that taunt me from the courier station in the lobby of my office!  I'm sure that whether or not a designer requests returns depends on the cost of the items and the size of the company.

In any case, her emails were really unprofessional and it sounds like a crappy company!

yes, I know they do this for the really expensive couture stuff, but I don't think they return the run-of-the-mill stuff (separates and accessories in the 0-$2,000 range.)  Of course I could be wrong since I've never worked on a fashion print publication.

whatever - she's still a rude bitch smile

Even if this lady is correct and samples are always returned, she was still ridiculously rude in the way she said it!

I know! Like xtinastyles said, why didn't she just refer me to her press release?  That would have been a friendly solution. Instead she chose to perpetuate a poor image of her company and product... Now, that's what I call "stupid."

You know what surprises me - they offer sizes beyond 31 or 32 inch waist, most companies are too snobbish to offer larger sizes but she extends hers to a 38, which is maybe a size 18. I'm surprised that someone who is so quick to judge would be so openminded.

I just have to share this email that I received yesterday:

"Hi there,

This is in regards to the negative feedback from this post: http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=44784&p=3&topicID=20915488&page=1&sort=oldestFirst

These posts are extremely old and misrepresent our company. We were a very new company when the review came out and have changed our policies dramatically. This post is unfair and hurtful to our business. It would be very kind of you to remove it if possible.

Thanks! Ellie
 orders@skinnyjeans.com"

Freedom of speech, honey.  Transparency.  There will be good and bad feedback about any brand or product out there.  I'm surprised they dug this up.  People are smart enough to make their own decisions.  The post is not unfair, and simply states individual opinions good and bad.  Welcome to social media.

Annnnddd look how fair you were, posting their side  biggrin

Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  If you wanted better press, instead of whining about the negative posts, do something to change your image.....like I don't know - offering you a pair to try to SHOW how much they've changed!

I know, right?

Who knows, maybe they wanted me to resurrect this post for publicity.  As they say, any publicity is good publicity.

What also struck me was the defensive tone vs. apologetic or engaging.  Doesn't seem as though much has changed to me...

They earned this bad press. If they want good press, they need to earn that too, IMO.

This is their history, like it or not.

Plus why even bring up the past? If they hadn't emailed you, you wouldn't have updated this thread, and we wouldn't even all be talking (again) about how silly and rude they are.

Exactly.  It just makes them look defensive and petty.  If they wanted to change their image, they could have sent you an email with all the great things that have improved about the product/company. (unless they don't have anything great or improved to report....wink)  Why continue to promote the negative?
