Invest $100K for me in some stocks!
Permalink Closed

I have this project for one of my classes where we have to invest $100K in the stock market.  I am out of companies to invest in.  I have:

Apple

Disney

Fox

Exxon

Bud

ING

May Stores

Starbucks

I tried Gucci but our site won't pull it up or the LV group since they are foreign stocks. Any other ideas? Macys? Saks? Neimans? Food or Drug Companies?

Limited Group is good, Chico's FAS, Williams-Sonoma Group, K-Mart is pricey now and may not go up anymore but they are doing well at the moment.

won't be much help now but when I had to do a project like that a few years ago I invested in all of the chocolate companies a month before Valentines day and then "sold" on the 14th. I made a killing and was the only one in the class that ended up not losing money in the end.

hmm choo... since it starts on the 15th i couldn't do chocolate but I wonder if seafood places would be good with lent.  I thought fashion since it was fashion week this week and theme parks since the spring is coming and people go for spring breaks... What else is out there? I missed the weight loss stocks (since ny's resolutions are being broken by now)

What about satellite(sp?) radio?  It is new and believe it will only go up and up.  XM is already pretty high - I think and Sirius I believe has a lot of room to increase in business.  It is around 6ish right now and I'm pretty sure will increase from there.

I would go for some healthcare/drug company stocks - maybe one that's recently come out with new a technology/treatment?

you can use www.biospace.com - great resource for biotech companies with good products in the pipeline, awaiting FDA approval, etc.

Tiffany & Co. b/c that's a timeless brand.  How about Time/Warner?

I would say NO on the Time/Warner (not that I am bitter or anything).

How about some tech companies like Google?

The bio company is a good idea, I think, like Pfizer and Bayer.

if you go the fashion/dept. stores invest in luxury brands. there have been a ton of articles about how well they're doing. also liz claiborne. they just bought c & c so there is potential for their profit to go up. i probably wouldn't do disney since they have all this drama with harvey weinstein/miramax and their stock probably won't go up until that is settled.

yes!! invest in liz claiborne i am a bit bias to this investment :) honey is right, they just acquired c&c california and own about 36 brands including juicy, lucky, laundry, mexx, ellen tracy, enyce, etc.

there are a lot of these retail powerhouses that have a large portfolio of brands.. proctor and gamble is one off the top of my head.

i haven't read all of the other posters suggestions, but target is doing well from what i've read.

also, if you are looking for gucci group or lvmh (louis v monet hennessey) they aren't listed under the NYSE (not sure if your project is limited to NYSE or not)

i actually had a similar project in school last sememster (but i was limited to companies in the fashion world) and i picked coach -- they are (or were) doing exremely well -- might be worth checking out. good luck!!
