Is anyone still doing the hair experiment where you don't wash it everyday? I was just curious to see how it was going. I have to do mine every second day at least or it just gets too gross. What do you do with it (how do you style it, I mean. And what products do you use to style) on in-between days?

I am very curious about this as well.  I wash my hair everyday, and I know that is bad

But what about after the gym?  How do you go w/out washing when you are sweaty and gross?

I tried for 2 months last year but my hair is too fine for it to work.  My hair dresser was like you don't have the right hair for that so I stopped.  I wish I could go a few days without washing it.  It would be really nice.

I try to wash my hair every other day, unless the roots look really greasy.  I usually just wash my bangs everyday, since they always look gross if they aren't washed.

I can go pretty long without washing my hair (4 days!!).  That's kinda embarassing to admit, but I have the type of hair that looks better when it hasn't been washed in a few days.  By the 4th day I have so many people telling me my hair looks great and I feel so dumb to admit that I haven't washed it!!  It's not so much of an experiment with me, but me being lazy and the fact that every hairdresser I've had has told me it's much better on my hair not to wash as often.  It also depends on my work out schedule because if I've gone to the gym then my hair won't last longer than 3 days.

i also have that kinda hair that i can go a few days w/o washing & it looks just fine.  my hair tends to get that fluffy look when it is freshly washed & needs a bit of oil to calm it down.  my hair is pretty thick & slightly wavy.  lately i have been washing it every day (except no shower sundays!) because i go to the gym m-f and even if my hair looks ok after i just feel weird not washing it after i've sweated so much.

I'm still doing it. I tend to wash it every other day although I can usually get away with every two days. I've found that it tends to get greasier in the winter, which seems weird but a lot of people have told me their hair is the same way. I don't usually style it any differently, although it does hold a curl much better when it's dirty. The only products I use on days that I don't wash are a refreshing spray. I have one by Sebastian (called Dry Clean Only) and another one whose name escapes me. They basically just help to pick my hair up a bit and make it smell nice.

When we started the hair experiment on FH, my hair was much  more damaged than it is now.  I only had to wash it once every 3-4 days. Now I wash it every other day since it's growing in healthier and I haven't touched it with hair dye in about 8 months.  I think that my infrequent washings before helped to get my hair back in better shape, but my natural hair needs to be washed every other day (unfortunately, I really liked not having to deal with it for 4 days!)

I use Klorane Dry Shampoo on days I don't have time to wash my hair.  My hair is really really really greasy if I don't wash it everyday, and the dry shampoo works great as a substitute.  It makes it look like I just washed my hair.

i wash every other day unless i have been to the gym.. then i wash it everyday.  on the non-wash days i either make it curly or pull it back into a ponytail.  and if it is too greasy looking- i put some powder through it to make it look better.  works like a charm!

At one point I wasn't washing my hair for 4-5 days at a time. I just used Kevin Murphy Fresh Hair to keep the stench at bay. I probably wash my hair every 2-3 days now. I have really thick hair that doesn't really settle into its natural style until the second or third day. The day I shampoo and condition I have really funky hair that doesn't really obey what I want it to do.

My hair was never terribly damaged to begin with, but not shampooing everyday with harsh clarifying conditioners like I used has helped me with scalp oil control.

I was mine 2 times a week but my hair sounds very similar to Crystals. Thick, a little coarse that requires Biosilk to calm it down and wavy.

It looks better the longer I go without washing it. Sometimes I use a little powder or a blow dryer to Freshen it up.

It takes about 35 minutes to blow dry anyway so I am thankful to not have to wash it every day.

I tried to do the hair experiment on several occasion, but I think I look like a huge greaseball if I don't wash it every day.

I also have just finally grown out all the dye in my hair.  Are you amazed at how healthy and pretty your hair can be when you don't dye it?  I am.  My hair had gone pretty downhill and it is so healthy now.

I wash my hair every 2 to 4 days.  I have THICK, dry, coarse wavy/curly hair and I have a TON of it.  Plus it's blonde, and they say blonde hair is usually more fragile than other colors.  When I blow dry it it just gets so big and fluffy, that I like it better the second or third day.  If it's super dry, though, I'll rinse it out and just condition.  I do that a lot.

I had forgotten how silky and shiny my natural hair is when I leave it alone and don't mess with the hair dye.  About half of my hair is back to normal, the lower half still has dye in it. If I run my hands down my hair, I can actually feel where my natural hair ends and the dye begins. I don't think that I will be reaching for a bottle of hair dye anytime soon.

I'm a big believer in not washing your hair everyday. It's done wonders for my previously damanged and totally dry hair! I've been doing it for about a year now, and EVERYBODY has noticed a significant improvement in terms of how healthy and shiny my hair looks now.

I wash it every 2 days, so on average 2-3 per week. It's a time saver, too!

I find my mason pearson brush helps distribute the oil so my scalp isn't greasy, and then I rinse really well and use conditioner on days I don't wash. If I get a blow out I don't do anything except brush it the next day (or two). I recommend the rinsing but not using shampoo technique; I never thought I'd be able to skip days shampooing until I figured that part out. (I also think I'm getting older and not as oily as I used to be.)

I fell off the wagon long ago.  Probably at the end of the summer or fall.  My hair gets greasy now when I don't wash it daily.  I go through these weird phases I guess; my hair didn't need to be washed for several days, but it's just different now (one summer I sware I sweat like a pig - thank God that's not a problem anymore).

I don't usually dry my hair with a hair dryer though.  I wash it at night so I can let it air dry.  I still use a dryer or curling iron in the morning, but it's still better for your hair since it isn't wet when it's being pulled by brushes with hot air on it.  Every once in a while I skip a day, but then I have to douce myself with baby powder.  Today, I happen to have not washed my hair.  I go to the gym at least 4 days a week and my whole head is sweaty so that's another reason it has to be washed.

I'm getting in on this late but oh well. I wash my hair every 3-4 days and it looks great. I have really long, straight hair, of medium thickness. It took some patience to get to the 3-4 day range but it's great! I usually only wash my hair twice a week during work weeks. How awesome is that? Gives me a good 1/2 hour extra to sleep in every morning. As for the gym, I go to the gym in the evenings so it's not as big a problem. If it gets weighed down or a little greasy looking, I go for the ever popular johnson & johnson baby powder.

On days when I wash my hair is just terrible! I can't remember how I coped when I used to wash my hair everyday! Plus, I color my hair ALL the time (blonde, brown, black, red, whatever) and both my stylists (color and cut) notice the difference since I slowed down on the washing. My color lasts forever and I have really healthy looking hair.

Only problem: smoke smell. How do you women get that out of your hair or do you just live with it? I hate bars that aren't well ventilated.

Just a thought, but I know ironing clothes usually gets rid of a lot of their smoky smell, maybe if you ran a flat iron through your hair it would decrease the smell.
