What are your thoughts on wearing black and dark brown togeather? I've always thought it was a big no-no. Is there a "rule" for that you can't wear black and dark brown? Also what about wearing brown pants and black shoes?

I do a lot, but I think it depends on how you wear it.  A few examples that I've done:  a brown top with black flip flops, my Old Navy black tunic with a brown belt over it, a black cardigan (over a white tee) with my dark brown moccs, and my tan uggs with a black tee.

I tend to like a funky look when I'm being casual, so it works for me.  If I had to wear dress clothes though, and had on brown pants, I'd probably wear brown shoes with it.  I guess if it's a dressier look, match, and if it's casual, do what you want!

I don't like it together.  It's just one of my things, black with black, brown with brown.  I don't think they mix well together.

As long as it is absolutely clear that you are in no way attempting to 'match' black and brown in your oufit, then go for it.  There just needs to be enough separation of shades to make it clear what you are going for.

I HATE the no black and brown rule.  I always wear black and brown together, the trick is to get enough of a contrast between the two colors.  Too much black or too much brown together just looks to matchy so I try to mix it up with both the colors together.

I love it together--you just have to use your judgement to know if it looks right or off.  Does that make sense??

I have no prob with this.  BUT, I absolutely cannot bring myself to mix brown and black leathers.  If you wear brown shoes, you cannot wear a black belt or a black bag and vice versa.  I think this is the result of years and years of my mother pounding this into my head.

I don't like them together but I've seen a few women pull it off. I'm not sure how they did it, but it worked. I think maybe because it wasn't dark dark brown? I remember once about 5 years ago, I met this young woman, a singer, who was wearing a cowboy hat, a cream-colored ribbed turtleneck, a chunky chestnut-brown (*maybe* slightly darker) belt, black pants that were low, low, low, before it became super fashionable, and brown boots. I thought she looked awesome. I guess it didn't hurt that she was drop-dead gorgeous too.

I wouldn't wear black shoes with brown pants though.

I agree wholeheartedly. I actually just recently acquired a lovely skirt that mixes brown and black together very well. Since the brown in the skirt is more mocha colored, there's a deliberate attempt to note a different in colors and

I also prefer to use brown for bottoms, because black bottoms in general make me very snorey. Like I'll wear a black top, black shoes, and a black bag, but wear brown pinstripe pants.

I never mix leathers either...that's taking it too far.

Personally, I don't wear them together, but have seen some very inspiring combinations.  Also like Lilykind, I don't mix leathers & don't like denim on denim.

I personally love it, in a casual manner.  I think brown and black looks really cool.  If these were my size I would totally buy them:

I think it can be okay. In the summer I have a pair of chocolate brown capris that I wear w/ a black tank top. I do agree w/ Tara though- I don't think mixes leathers is okay.

Love black and brown together-but think you have to judge each outfit independently.  I love those black and brown Chanel shoes.
