Exercise Question - Weight Lifting
Permalink Closed

I know the new methods out there advocate doing 5 days of weight training with each day concentrating on a different muscle group but I don't have time for that since I don't live close to campus. The way I learned was doing all muscle groups 3 times a week with a rest day in between.

So my question is do you think lifting weights (the machines not free weights) on Tuesday and Thursday will be beneficial even though its only 2 days a week since that works best with my work and school schedules or do I really need to do 3 or 5 days worth of training. I don't wanna be a body builder or anything just sculpt some of my flabby areas since I'm dropping weight through diet and cardio exercise.

(I must be feeling smart today or something since I used some big words in this post!)

I think you are doing the right thing, IMO.

If your goal is to tone up and you are on a diet and cardio plan, then twice-a-week-all over weight training should be enough to reach your goals.

However, make sure that you are doing all the right exercises and that you are doing enough of them (i.e., 30 minutes twice a week is not going to cut it, allow yourself at least 60 minutes).  To make sure I am targeting all muscles groups, I take a Body Sculpt class at the gym twice a week (most gyms should have a similar class) and have personal training sessions twice a week.

ditto what Joina said.  I like to take the body sculpting classes at the gym when I want to do weights without a trainer.

Thanks yall. The school gym has all the machines I was trained on at the YMCA so I know how to use then and I'll just pull out the last program my trainer there did for me.  I think it was light weights with 3 sets of 15 reps or something.

I think 15 reps is too many - if you can do that many the weight is too light. I like to max out at 10 or 12.

Weight lifting is the most transformative thing a woman can do for her body, imo. It should be difficult. You will not turn into the Hulk.
