I just wanted to share my sugar problem with everyone. I had an insane sugar addiction forever. Lately I have been trying to significantly cut sugar out of my diet. I stopped putting it in my morning coffee, I cut out sweets, etc. I have been doing this for ~3 weeks now, and I must admit it wasn't too hard after the first week. Last night my b/f and I bought Starburst Jelly Beans (one of our absolute favorite sugary candy) and after eating literally 5 jelly beans I realized that I didn't even like them anymore. I felt sick and crappy. I have noticed such a difference since I cut down on sugar: I am not exhausted at 3pm, I wake up without hitting snooze on my alarm, I haven't had any headaches, etc.
i'm so envious! i was just talking to my co-worker about my sugar intake and how it has to stop.. you've inspired me.. i'm going to try to stop putting it in my coffee and i'll go from there. :)
I commend you because that is really hard to do. I started cutting back about a year ago and it is amazing how overlysweet and disgusting "processed sweet" such as cookies, candy bars taste.
I cut back to a half teaspoon of sugar in my morning coffee, eat cereals with only 4 grams of sugar or less and i still eat sweets but only ones that i bake so that i can control the amount of sugar put in.
keep it up tara! i was able to do it for 3 weeks (as part of my detox diet) and vowed to never look back. sadly i'm back on the wagon (or is it off??) but good luck to u!! hopefully ur office doesn't have a candy bowl 2 inches from ur desk & insist on buying marie calendar's pies once a week!
yay! it's true after a week your body or your mind or whatever seems to reprogram itself. i think sugar is just a vicious cycle of addiction! yay for you!
Congratulations Tara! I've just about eliminated it from my diet as well. I noticed that the more I don't consume any candies, the less I desire them. However, I found some sugar-free wanna-be oreo cookies that are a great option if I ever crave chocolate. Otherwise, the only sugar I consume is through fruits.
good for you! i have a lot of diabetes in my family and i freaked out a little about a year ago that i was poisoning myself with the amount of sugar i ate. i cut it out cold turkey and didn't have it for almost a year. i'm back to eating small bits of it now, but like you said, once you break the habit, things that have sugar in them taste weird and kind of unappealing. the fact that the craving for it goes away almost completely makes me think that it really is similar to a drug that you have to work out of your system.
