I've never been inside but it looks amazing and the location is good (well, depending on what you are looking for). It's crazy expensive though. Are you thinking of staying there?!?! Come visit !!

I have not been there, but my parents stayed there last year for a few days for Valentine's Day. My parents really liked it. My dad travels all the time for work and he stays in hotels all the time, so he really never talks about them because he has been to so many. He didn't shut up for like two weeks about this hotel. The pool, the view blah blah blah.

the rooms are funky and they have a pool. my friend rented a room for her birthday. also you're smack in the middle of the meat packing district. catherine maladrino, calypso, elizabeth charles, stella mccartney, alexander mcqueen, jefferies, scoop... all there!

not to mention pastis, florent, spice market, and hogs and heffers! hahaha

thanks, ladies.  i am thinking of going to NY in may with a friend, but i don't know where we are going to stay yet.  we want to stay somewhere cool, but i am a bit picky about hotels and i was wondering if the gansevoort would be snobby because it's brand-new and in a cool neighborhood (like the hotel equivalent of my much-reviled scoop).  i feel like if i am going to pay for a nice hotel, i want the service to match the price.

may i suggest the soho house (www.sohohouseny.com), just across the road from the gansevoort. it's a private club, but if you stay at the hotel you have access to the club. it has a rooftop pool -- though it is only four or five feet deep -- with an adjacent bar and restaurant. a nice restaurant, a few bars, a movie theater, a smoking/games room if that's your wont and lots of famous people. it's a nice scene.

ok--i decided on my "solo" vacation in may.  i booked my tickets.  i'm going to NY for a few days with a friend, and when she flies home i am going to take the train up to boston to visit another friend who lives there for a  few days.  i'm really excited!  we haven't picked a hotel in NY yet, so any other ideas are welcomed.
