Cheap Shampoo and Conditioner
Permalink Closed

Ladies, I need your help in choosing a drugstore brand of shampoo and conditioner.  I currently use Fresh, Phyto, and Philosophy shampoos and conditioners.  But, I want to save a few bucks and see how my hair does with a drugstore brand.

I have long, thin (buts lots of it), color treated hair that tends to get frizzy, but is easily weighed down by heavy conditioners or products.  Also, its tends to be a little oily at the scalp.  Can anyone reccommend a good product?  Oh yeah, I prefer curling my hair so nothing that will keep it stick straight.  TIA

I agree, Garnier Fructis is really great cheap shampoo. My stylist at my v expensive salon actually told me that the stuff the use in their salon is pretty much the same stuff but more expensive. I guess it's made by the same people.

I like fructis too, but I love Aussie, both the Mega and Moist; they make shampoo, conditioners and the 3-minutes miracle wich is really good. I think they have a version of the products also for colored hair.

I think we have the same hair Drew (except mine is short).  Currently I use Herbal Essences shampoo and Pantene Volumizing conditioner.  I find that Fructis is too heavy for me.

i love pantene... it's always been my fave, ever since i tried it in grade school!!  right now my hair is short so i just use the shampoo + conditioner.  my hair reacts great to it!  they have any kinda products u could want tho, clarifying shampoos, deep conditioners, etc.  just read the bottle to see what they do & u can easily find something.  plus it's only like 3 bucks a bottle!

Hi Drew!

I think we have similar hair and Fructis is pretty good. I'm not a fan of Pantene for our fine hair though.

I think Fructis sleek and shine might be good for you. It's a little light for my hair. I love Fructis though, I've used fancy brands and I really cant tell the difference.

Ditto on Fructis.  I went on a trip with some of my gfs and they had forgotten their shampoo/conditioner so they started using mine.  I guess you can call us the Fructis club now

I'm also a fan of Pantene.  For a deep conditioner, try Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle.

I have similar hair and use Sheer Blonde and it works out well for me.  I usually use it for a few months and when it runs out switch to something else and then switch back.  If you have color-treated hair stay away from using a daily clarifying shampoo and conditioner.  It will strip the color out and leave your hair an off color.  I accidently did it once and it left my blonde highlights a brassy gold color

Thanks for the tips ladies. I  have used Pantene and Herbel Essences in the past and was pretty happy.   I think I will try the Fructis, Brilliant Blonde, and Sheer Blonde if I can find sample sizes of them.   I'm not a fan of Aussie; I just don't like the smell.

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies, especially the one about clarifying shampoo's, ISUBG, I would hate to end up with a head full of brassy highlights.

I am a die hard fan of pantene - I have used it forever.  I have color treated hair, and I love both the shiny straight and the color treated shampoo/conditioner.  And, I hate the Fructis smell - it is too sugary or something.

I have similar hair: long, thin, but lots of it. I've been using Brilliant Brunette, and really like it.

I have wavy semi-thick hair, and the sleek & shine REALLY weighs my hair down. It makes it really shiny and straight, which is good for a blow-out I guess. I do like the fructis shampoo for colored & treated hair. It's a good light-weight shampoo. My fav conditioner is Jason organic apricot cond. It has a UV protectant in it, so it protects highlights, and you can use it as an instant conditioner or leave it in for up 3-15 minutes for deep cond. It like it b/c it makes my frizzy hair calm down, but still leaves me with all my volume. I got it at Wild Oats.
