1st post and hair question

This is my first post.  I am a long time lurker.  I really enjoy reading this site and have read several questions on hair extensions.  I recently cut my long hair short and I hate it.  Short hair looks great on alot of girls, but it does not look good to me on me.  I have been doing alot of research and think I want to get clip in extensions.  There was some discussion here on some from Sally's. (Remmy?) The only thing that is keeping me from purchasing them is that I am a teacher of high school juniors and seniors and I am afraid that if I walk in with long hair one day, they will talk about me behind my back.  I  know that sounds neurotic and that I should not care what people think, but I do.  I  wish I did not.  Can someone offer me advice on what you would do if you were me?  Thanks and I hope to post regularly.

Hi chicteacher. I definately understand your concerns. Maybe you could so some gradual extensions, like go 2 inches longer at a time? What is the length of your hair right now and what are you hoping to achieve?

How short did you go?  If it's an option maybe you can go from straight to curly or curly to straight and gradually add the shorter extensions like xtina mentions.  If you mess around with the texture that could help you gradually add in some length without it being to obvious.

I don't know anything about extensions in particular, but would it be the worst thing in the world if the kids noticed that you had extensions? As long as you own up to it, I can't see what they would have to talk about. Don't try to pass it off as your real hair, and if they say something to you act excited that they noticed (as if you had just cut your hair and were glad someone noticed) and say "yeah, I got extensions this weekend! I love them!"

Extensions really aren't a big deal I don't think, tons of women have them. It's just like dying your hair IMO. I mean, it'd be great if my hair came out of my head the color that I dye it, but it doesn't. And I'm not embarassed to say that I dye it. I think it's the same thing - it'd be great if the long hair was natural, but it's not, and there's nothing shameful about it!

That definitely helps me.  I remember the first time I ever colored my hair I went from my natural medium golden brown to a reddish brown.  When I walked into class, one of my kids looked at me and said "your hair!!!"

I survived that and kept changing colors every few months.  I am going to try to think of hair extensions that way.  I guess I just need to jump in feet first.
