Remember around Christmas time when I was annoyed that my mother bought me all this jewelry from Kohls after I told her I hated that store?  I just realized that it is probably about 90% my fault.  Today my mom showed me these earrings she bought for her friend there and asked what I thought. I was like "oh, they are so pretty.  She'll love them!" when in reality I thought they were awful.  Then I got to thinking.  I do that ALL the time!  Everytime she shows me something she bought for herself or someone else, I tell her I love it!  I wonder if from now on, I said something like "It's nice, but not really my style", she wouldn't try to buy me stuff at Kohls anymore. Hmm...

That is a very good thought. I have a realitive who will show everyone in our family certain items and then if we like them, she will buy/make them for us. She made this fun fur scarf in November showed it to me. I didn't want to be a jerk, so I told her it was very pretty. A month I was opening up a fun fur scarf for Christmas. It is hard though to tell your family members that you don't like something they bought (well it is hard to tell certain family members that).

Good luck putting this new train of thought into practice, it's always hard to tell someone especially someone that is close to you that you don't care for their tastes.


In the end though, honesty is really the best policy.

When I shop with my Mom & she asks if i like something, I ALWAYS say "for you or for me" - it's no secret that we have totally different styles & that usually puts out the message without hurting her feelings. If your mom is like mine & buys you stuff on a normal basis, then it's in your best interest to do this!!!!! Then she may just buy you stuff you like, or give you cash like mine's been doing lately.
