That's hilarious, LMonet!  I agree, she is soooo tiny.  I am quite tone and my arms look nothing like that cavern she has.

Hee, LMonet, I was thinking the same thing before I read your post - starve yourself and do a LOT of weight training, basically. Also, be prepared to live with a skinny, bony body (look at those collarbones - yikes). I think Jen Aniston could gain about 10 lbs. and look WAY better, but that's just me.

I don't think she looks that skinny. Yes skinny, but all actresses are and there's a lot worse out there.

I absolutely agree.  But this isn't a 'real life body' - she looks great (and actually pretty normal) on TV but she probably looks much skinnier in person.  Kinda like when you think you're doing really well weight-wise, but then you see a picture of yourself and think "Day-um!  I look like that!?!".  If you always look 10 lbs heavier in a picture, then she looks 10 lbs heavier on TV than she looks in real life . . . . scary!

I think Jennifer Aniston looks great there, but I am one of those who likes skinny better without all the hard muscle.  To get those arms, you need a lot of cardio and a lot of reps with low weights.

Or you could do some cardio with heavy weights and low reps and get there quicker!

I agree that chances are good she seriously overtrains and undereats to look that way.
Don't try to get Jen Aniston's arms, try to get your best arms. :) Forward and lateral delt raises give that nice round shoulder shape.

damn, she does have perfect arms huh? there are websites that show celebrities' clothing but are there some that show there workout routines? I feel like my arms are bulking up, getting too muscular. i actually stopped doing bicep exercises cuz they are getting too big. I'm gonna try to work my shoulders, chest and triceps harder instead.

what are those?

hey patricia, I emailed Krista from sumptuous, asking her how one builds muscle without gaining weight in fat, and here is what she said:

In general terms, you can't gain and lose at the same time. By analogy,
it's like trying to drive a car by stepping on the gas and brake at the
same time.  The hormonal environment for gaining is different than the
one
for losing (again, I'm being very simplified here). When you gain
muscle,
you inevitably gain some fat. When you lose fat, you inevitably lose
some
muscle. The objective of diet and training is to minimize fat gain and
muscle loss during each process respectively.

I think Krista might be coming from more of a bodybuilder perspective that says First - gain, build bulk, gain gain gain, build bulk Then - cut, eat lean, cut cut cut. Which I'm assuming you don't want to do. (it doesn't sound like fun to me at all )

When I joined a gym I started lifting weights and doing cardio but didn't change the way I ate (I eat a decent amount of a variety of food - good and "bad") and put on muscle without getting fatter. I mean, I gained weight, but I didn't gain fat. That won't be good if you aren't eating enough, though. I just looked at it as though I shouldn't use working out as an excuse to eat whatever the hell I wanted. But you do need energy for workouts and maintainign muscle, so you might not want to do exactly what I did, you know?

Also, since having muscle raises your metabolism, and lifting weights itself is a calorie-burning activity, I'm not sure why you'd need to get fat to gain muscle?

Here are lateral raises -

and front raises -

You can do rear raises for that sexy shoulder blade muscle look -

I hate that guy and how he swing the weights around all the time, but that's the general movement. I would focus on isolating the muscles you're trying to work (unlike that clown.)

thank you so much patricia!! I did my legs yesterday, so I'm going to do those tonight! that guy does look a little funny though

I have been doing an exercise similar to the first one, but I wasn't lifting that high. I guess I'll have to go back to my wimpy little 3-pounds for those- can't lift the 5-pounders that high (well, not more than 4 reps anyway)

Oh, I'm embarassed to even do them at the gym - I can lift so little. I'm not sure if they're small muscles or I'm just a weakling but I'm right there with you on the puny dumbbells!

I just googled how I should work shoulders into a split and I found this classic shot, which I have to share:
