shopping ban!!
Permalink Closed

I have placed myself on a shopping ban until March 21 (the first day of my spring break week).  I plan to wait until then and go on a big shopping trip.  However, it is getting really hard.  Old Navy, JCrew, BR, etc have such cute spring stuff already out,  and one item at BR I wanted has already sold out.  Do you think it is even worth the wait or should I go ahead and start buying spring stuff?  I am worried everything will be sold out my the middle of March.  Do you think these stores will continue to put out new merchandise through March?

all those stores will continue to put stuff out through the year, this is just the first round. imo, if you want something you should get it. for example that banana shrug, you should call them and see if they can do a charge send.

while in theory i'm on a shopping ban, it's more of a diet that i'll be breaking tomorrow. i'm also trying to implement a new shopping strategy to ensure that i get the most for my money. for me personally, i have a lot of clothes (it's almost sickening) and i don't need anything right now. also if i were to buy something new, i wouldn't really be able to wear it for at least a month, since it's still quite cold. so i'm trying to save money and focus on getting things that will really enhance my wardrobe, as opposed to lots of crap just b/c it's on sale, which is what i'd be doing if i bought something new. so imo instead of just saying you're on a ban and not buying anything at all, if you find something that you love, and you can wear then you should get it.

I know exactly what you are going through.  For the past few years I've gone nuts buying spring merchandise in January and February and most of it ends up being on sale before I even got a chance to wear it.  I started keeping a spreadsheet of all my purchases a couple of years ago and last year I realized how much $$ I spent on items I couldn't even wear.  I still have stuff from last spring that I never wore!  (uh, granted I lost (!) a couple of shirts).
So this year I put myself on a ban of sorts.  I call it the pseudo-ban mainly because it can be broken.  But I put myself on it because I don't want the same story to repeat itself this year.
I am limiting myself to a couple of spring items betwen now and mid-March (coincides with my birthday so it all works out, I get a spree then!).  I'm also allowing myself to buy something if I think it's going to sell out or be gone before then.  I would strongly recommend the same.  I particularly remember going nuts at Banana last February and by the time I wore the stuff it was all half off or more (and all available too because new shipments had come in).

Honey, I have been thinking about calling them.  I emailed BR and they sent me a list of stores that have that shrug, but I am still having a hard time forking out $68 plus tax and shipping on something that may turn out to be a trendy item.  Hopefully, they will order more inventory of it.  I am still debating what to do.
