Any thoughts from last night's episode? It was very season 5 X-Files to me, but I still really enjoyed it. I loved that they alluded to the Santa Barbara trip that never happened for Syd and Vaughn.
And what the hell are Jack and Sloane up to re: Irina? Is she really dead is my question?
And while we're at it, why are some characters refered to by their first names and others by their last name?

I'm soooo disappointed wih Alias. That was not an episode of Alias. Alias is smart and sleek and this episode was neither. I'm sorry but in previous seasons, they would've never moved into a "neighborhood of assasians" that dressed like the 50s. I know a lot of people were disappointed with last season, but I still wanted to watch then. Last season I think they dug themselves into a hole they couldn't get out of and so they had to play that out, but by the end of the season it got really good. The plot was complicated and you cared about the characters. There is NOTHING going on right now! Yeah the missions are somewhat entertaining to watch, but that's it. You know Sydney and Vaughn are gonna make it. There's no complicated storyline going on at all. In previous seasons the show has been so smart and twisted. Now I just don't care. I guess there's small stuff going on like, why did he want the book?!?!?! Not enough to keep me watching. I've been a die hard Alias fan since season 1 and through out all the ups and downs, this is the first time I haven't felt like watching.
The reason they killed Irina is because Lena Olin was asking for too much money, so yes I think she is dead. Unless she changes her mind or they come up with the cash.
It's usually the male characters that are referred to by their last name. I guess except Jack. There's no reason behind it, kind of like real life.
ETA: Ok and what was up with "dinner in Paris?" Gross. That would've never happened on old Alias.
Maddie, I completely agree with you. I too have been watching from the beginning and this is by far the worst year. I think it was the network who put the pressure on J. J. Abrams to make each episode to tell a complete story rather than a season long intertwined plot. My guess is the network thought the new format would be more friendly to new viewers. Well, they may end up with a few new viewers but they are going to alienate (pardon the pun) all the old viewers.
