Dress Color?
Permalink Closed

Technically, this is a wedding question.  BUT, it pertains mostly to bridesmaids and, lets face it, we could all be called on to be a bridesmaid at any given second so I want everyone's opinion on this one.

We picked a fairly untraditional color scheme for our wedding:  Rust/Burnt Orange, Apple/Charteuse Green, and Copper/Chocolate Brown.  Here is my question:  If you were a bridesmaid, which color of dress would you prefer?  Would it be totally tacky to have one bridesmaid in each color?  Is there a color that you would HATE to wear?

I need your help!  I really don't want to be 'the bride that made her bridesmaids wear those awful, rust/green/brown dresses'!  What are your thoughts?

Burnt Orange

Apple Green

Copper/Chocolate

 - OR -

Do you like the each in a different color concept?

I think it would depend on their coloring. I personally think either the browns or rustswould be the most niversally flattering.

either brown or chartreuse. but although chartreuse is a very pretty color, it doesn't look great on everybody. I would like burnt orange the least. oh, and I think it looks best when bridesmaids all wear the same color. it's just more uniformly pretty and simple and aesthetically pleasing than having all these crazy colors.

I could only wear brown out of those.  I'm fair with reddish brown hair and I absolutely could not wear rust, and most likely not chartreuse although it would depend on the shade.

I had a friend that had each bridesmaid in a different color.  It was kind of cool because although everyone was dressed in the same dress, everyone looked different.  You could then pick/or have them pick which of the colors to wear.  I agree though that  brown is prob. the best way to go if you're picking one.  Or if you really want to know casually talk to them (seperately) about it  just to get a feel for what they would want.

I would agree, I would much rather wear the copper than the burnt orange or apple green!!

I would either go with brown or chartreuse.  I also think a brown dress with a chartreuse sash would look nice, like you can do on these Watters gowns:

I would do the cognac (darker brown) and then a green sash

But in brown, not pink

I also adore this gown! (this is the cognac color, isn't it divine!)

BTW, love the colors you are having!!!

Those colors would probably be difficult for most people to wear so I say go with the cognac brown it will be the most flattering of the colors you chose.

I also prefer everyone wearing the same color, it looks more elegant that all different colors IMO.

LOVE your picks FP - that cognac color is divine and exactly what I was picturing in my head!

Okay, so nobody thinks it would be too weird to have brown BM dresses?

I love all the colors! Are the pictures showing the style of the dress or just the colors? I think it would be cute if they were all wearing different colors as long as the colors were clearly part of the whole wedding decorations, throughout everything so it won't seem too random.  Also, it would probably look best if there were multiples of 3 for that too.  Hmm, maybe it would be easier to do just one color, in which case I vote for the brown.

My hair stylist had brown dresses and it was very chic looking. I loved it and I am such a pastel girl.

This is the kind of style I like, and it would be flattering for all three 'maids:

I like brown the best too.  I almost used brown, but my husband was against it so I went with my second choice.  I've been to a couple weddings where the bms wore different color dresses.  The first one, they all wore different pastels, and I didn't like it - they looked like easter eggs.  The second one, they all did the same color family, but different shades - I think it was something like - champagne, taupe, light brown, chocolate brown, and it looked great.  By the way, I love your colors, and I love the dresses you picked out, especially the third one.

I could wear all three colors well (black hair, brown eyes, tanned goldeny-olive skin), but I agree that brown is best if you're looking for universally flattering.
