Here are some photos from Christmas and Thanksgiving! I just unloaded my digicam today.
This cake is a really dense chocolate cake covered with chocolate ganache and then topped with meringue mushrooms. I saw the idea in an old Martha Stewart and thought the mushrooms were so charming. They are made with meringue and then the bottoms of the mushroom caps have white and dark chocolate to create a more "mushroom" look, I guess? I had alot of fun making it! If anyone wants the recipe let me know.
This is a yule log that my boyfriend made for his company Christmas party. The log itself is a chocolate genoise sponge cake with coffee swiss meringue buttercream. Then the "bark" is created with chocolate. To decorate are tuile cookies that are shaped like leaves... cc posted a picture of this before but that picture was from my cell phone and not very good quality. Again, if anyone wants the recipe to this let me know!

choo - it wasn't really hard but it took a long time. merinque takes a really long time to bake and dry out. i can see alot of people finding that aspect really annoying, but i just filled my time with other stuff. but as far as skill level wise, it was very easy!

it's like a traditional french confection for christmas time (buche de noel). they are roll cakes just made to look like a log (funny huh?). this one is chocolate and coffee flavored but they could be any flavor really. i think it's popular to have a chocolate/orange liquor combo, but i'm personally not really a fan of chocolate and fruit and neither is my bf who made the log. i'm just really proud of him! we stayed up really late making it but it was so fun.
Please share your recipe for the cake and meringue recipe. I see that your creation is on a pretty cake stand. Cake stands seem to be my latest obsession. I want lots of them in every size and color. Anthropologie and William Sonoma have some really beautiful ones.
ryan j and sunshinegirl - i will look for the recipe this weekend and post it! i used different recipes from different sources, so let me dig them up and i'll post them soon. sorry i haven't written them sooner! i haven't checked this thread in a while!
