I am absolutely in love with this and am seriously thinking about buying it.  If I bought it, it would be my biggest purchase ever.  I'd rather wait and hope for a sale, but it's on pre-order now and won't even ship until Feb 28, and I don't think I can wait that long because I really want to have it for spring.

I think it's pretty classic and that I will be able to wear it for a long time, but I'd like to get some input and opinions.  Do you think the color and the texture will eventually date it?  I'm short (about 5'3) so I'm kind of worried about the fit.  I do agree that Marc Jacobs is kind of a hack, but I fall in love with pieces from time to time (mostly jackets and shoes).

This coat is awesome.  Couple of questions... What is it lined with?  Is it warm?  How much?  I think its a very timeless piece, not to mention completely adorable.

Jess, it is lined with cotton.  I am guessing that it is a mid-weight coat because it is heavy jacquard and is in the spring line.  It's almost $485.  At first I thought that was a lot, but then I started thinking about cost per wear and I really think I'd wear this coat in the fall and spring for years.

lovely coat! i think you can get a lot of use out of it, but i think you might be able to hold off a bit. ime, almost all mj stuff goes on sale, especially if you live in an area where a lot of b & m stores that carry his line. i would research b & m stores first, before making a decision.

I love it, I think its worth it. It wont get outdated, you'll be able to put a lot of use into it. If you want it for Spring you should order it soon. Let us know if you decide to get it and how you like it

That's a beautiful coat! However, like one of the other girls said MJ stuff usually goes on sale. I think you should hold out til it goes on sale.

You guys are enablers; thanks!  I think I'm going to go for it....I really don't think I've ever loved a piece of clothing as much as I love this coat.  Actually, I don't think I've ever loved anything inanimate as much as I love this coat.  I'll probably place the order next week and impatiently wait for the ship date.  I really would like to wait for a sale, but if it doesn't ship until Feb 28, it probably won't be in stores until then....then it probably won't be marked down until May, and I can't wait that long, especially since by then it will be too warm to wear it!

Now that I have made my decision, I have a sizing question.  I ordered a MJ coat in medium from Neimans during the after Christmas sale and I had to return it because it was too big (this is how I justified this purchase to my husband. I still havent received my refund so technically half of this new coat has already been paid for). I am tempted to order this one in a small, but based on the size chart I am most definitely a medium.

This was the coat that was too big for me in medium

The sleeves were fine and the length was good, but there was too much room in the front and it didn't lie close enough to my body and it wasn't very flattering.

But the red coat looks like it's cut slimmer through the waist and the sleeves are cut longer.  Based on this do you guys think I'd be better with a small or a medium?

Honestly I do not think it is anything special and I am a pretty big MJ fan.  I usually find that his coats and jackets really aren't worth the money though.  For that price I think you could find something much more fabulous.

I am still in love, but I've thought about it some more and I've decided to wait. As everyone has said, most of the MJ stuff goes on sale eventually. Maybe by then I won't even want it. I am going to try to find something else (moderately priced) after my shopping ban is over at the end of Feb...some of the pre spring stuff will be on sale by then and there are some coats I like at BR and Anthro. If I still like this after it is marked down I will get it then. Thanks, everyone!

tri sarah tops -- maybe you could call your local saks and see if they have it in store. a lot of stores tend to have stuff out on the sales floor b/f they have it online. plus saks is really good about marking mj stuff down. almost everytime i go there, i see racks of his stuff on sale, and the first markdowns on the transition stuff usually happen in march. which will give you plenty of time to wear it b/f it gets warm.

Honey - yeah, I think that's what I'm going to do. I actually stopped by Saks earlier, but the one near my house (it's literally right down the street) is small and I didn't see any MJ stuff at all (seems like all they have there is Prada and St Johns and the jeans section is pretty much limited to Juicy and Seven). Later this week I'll probably check around for it at a couple of different Saks and at Neiman's. I may not even like it in person (although I highly doubt that). As anxious as I am to have it, it really makes sense to wait.
