Best Olive Oil?
Permalink Closed

I've been using Trader Joe's Extra Virgin California Estate olive oil for years (the one in the tall black bottle that won the taste award) but recently at an Italian restaurant I tried some that was so good it sparked an interest to venture out.
Does anyone have any great recommendations?
TIA!

mmm - I don't have an suggestions but this is a great question. I usually buy whatever extra virgin oil is on sale and doesn't look sketchy

are you using it to cook with or for salads? i bought a friend olive oil from corsica when i was in paris and the guy said it's the best olive oil ever for salads but don't cook with it because that does something to the taste.

Some friends and I have an ongoing debate about who makes the best OO - the Greeks, the Italians, or the Spaniards. Although I'm part Italian, right now I'm partial to the Greeks because this Eliki stuff is to die for; I want to drink it:

It's sold at our farmers' market for a decent price. I think it might be the best I've ever had.

The really good olive oils should be consumed uncooked IMO. For cooking or spraying pans, I'll use TJs or Whole Foods brand, or Colavita, an Italian brand, which is a good all-purpose OO for cooking and for salads.
