I was wondering what you recommend for me to plant in my backyard that can tolerate high winds? I really want a lemon tree, and to plant pretty colorful stuff. My mom used to live in this kind of condition too and said it would kill her roses

If you can post pictures, that would be awesome! Thanks

Temps, both day and night? Soil conditions? How much space, how much sun, how much rain? I LOOOOVE gardening and have quite the little green thumb!

Give me some details and I'll scout around. I have been doing "cosmetic" landscaping on the side for friends for years.

Plus also tell me just how much effort you'd be willing to put into it, as well as if this a permanent thing or you are looking at more of annual/bulb thing.

I live in California so for the most part is pretty warm. In the summer it can get to the high 90's

I have no shade so far in the backyard, and my grass size is pretty small, smaller then a 2 car garage size. The rest is cement and then I have land that goes up but is all dirt.
I dont want to work on it all the time, I want to be able to plant stuff that lasts.

Thanks

i'm not sure how the wind would affect a tree, but you should keep in mind that anything you plant is going to need attention for the first season if you want it to survive.  you cannot just plop plants in and ignore them.  you'll have to water, fertilize, mulch, etc.

if you go to a good nursery or garden center, they should be able to tell you what kind of stuff you can plant.  usually the people that work there know a lot about plants.  (NOT HOME DEPOT or that kind of place -- in my experience the people working there know nothing about plants and their plants are generally badly cared for.)
