Summer hair routine?

I live in ponytails during peak humidity months. I think it keeps you looking neat and sleek, and low ponytails are work appropriate.

I've loosely braided my hair overnight before and then brushed it out in the morning. Usually I need to use a bit of dry shampoo then, but if I hit up the ends with a curling iron I get a nice all day wave.

I just got a body wave (perm) and I love it! My styling time is quicker since I only blow dry til almost dry instead of a full blow-dry and running the straightener through it. I am still experimenting with products and styling techniques though.

Which John Frieda cream do you use? I use (for straight hair) the Secret Weapon and LOVE it.

I think the problem is my fine hair. Braids always look funny, I feel like I have this big body and teeny thin braid. Also same with pony tail, which I think will be my only option. When I pull my hair back, its barely an inch in diameter around the pony tail holder, so I tend to wear it down and style it so it looks fuller.

jacL, I was using the Weatherproof styling cream. Its supposed to keep your style after you blow dry. Maybe I will try Secret Weapon, I remember using it years ago and liking it.

I used Secret Weapon years ago too and just recently came back to it. I have tried other JF creams but none of them work as well. I love it.

hm, my hair is super thick so I'm not sure if this will work for you but i use avedas smoothing line of shampoo and conditioner and it keeps a lot of the puffy-ness and frizzies away. i also use a glossing cream. I wash it at night, brush, and let it air dry, then do the cream in the morning.

With fine hair, you could also pull off a lot of the really cute short styles that would make me look ridiculous. If you go shorter, your hair will be lighter and maybe have a little more body.

Your hair sounds a lot like mine.

I mix a nickel sized dallop of Origins Hair Dresser Stying Creme (I also like John Frida's Brunette one if they still make it) with 3 small pumps of Nexxus VersaStyler in my hands and rub in my hair.

Concentrate it on the ends and don't get too much at the front/bangs area. It sounds like a lot, but my hair usually does not feel producty as long as I start at the back of my head then move forward.

I either blow dry or air dry. If I air dry, I try to pile up the hair at the top of my head in a light, billowy, half-ponytail (one not pulled all the way through) until it dries enough that I can take it down and preserve height. You can also hit your hair quickly with the dryer to speed up the process.

I think the moral of the story is you need the extra product that gives some hold--in addition to the styling creme.
