I have this massive closet in my new house.  It has tons of shelves and shoe racks.  I am wanting to paint it or decorate it in some way.  Any suggestions?  I'm pretty girly and thinking of making it feel like a boutique in some way.  I'm open to pretty much any idea!

Can you show us a pic of what it looks like now?

It might be fun to go to the fabric store and find a print that really inspires you. Base your decor on the fabric - - even if you don't actually use it in the closet (although that would be nice). You could do wainscoting with two different paint techniques, wallpaper, or paneling with the fabric in mind. It would help to know your budget too.

Since closets don't usually have windows, it might be nice to bring in some nature- - a plant that doesn't need natural light, baskets made of organic material, etc.

If you can afford to add nice lighting, that will make a huge difference. Great lighting can help you control the rest of the decorating budget too by making it look even better.

IDEA IDEA ---- Instead of a fabric store print, maybe it would be fun to use a favorite print from fashion!  Your closet could be inspired by a DVF wrapdress print, a jcrew sweater print, a Lilly Pullitzer skirt print, a beautiful Anthro dress, etc.  How fun would that be!

ooh - how fun!  I love the idea of a confidante sofa in the center... Maybe a black and white damask print paired with persian turquoise (tiffany blue):

Found some photos for inspiration:

This is apparently Mariah Carey's closet:

This one was built by the designer that did Christian Louboutin's boutique in NYC (I love the hot pink carpet!):

I also wanted to add a black chandelier and that I think turquoise walls, and b/w upholstery on an ottoman or confidante sofa would look cool...

Are you attracted to a more contemporary look?

Ok, this is going to sound very strange, but in the latest InStyle, there is a great picture of Miley Cyrus's closet. She styled it like a boutique in hot pink and black, with a chandelier similar to the one D posted. I like how she put short shelves on one wall for her shoes - I have shelves like that to display my shoes like art smile.gif
