I'm looking for a soft cotton flat, with a minimal sole. I've found that in the past, leather flats ALWAYS rub my feet wrong and I end up with blisters and then eventually never wear them again (example: Old Navy Ballet flats). I think half of the problem is is that I have narrow feet, so they don't fit right. Right now, the only soft flats I have are actual ballet slippers (in pink), which I love.



So, honest opinions please, I can take it

On a side note, would anybody on here want my Old Navy flats? I have red, green, and black, all size 6; the green and red ones were only worn a couple of times each, the black ones about 10 times. I'll probably end up doing Ebay, but thought I'd ask here first. I would want to charge for them, but since I've never sold anything before, I don't know how much is fair to ask for

I'm about to get a pair like #1.  They were shoes I grew up wearing as a kid & are so comfy.  I found some in the Chinatown section of Honolulu, so you might consider that option as well.

i have flats like that and they're not really comfy. it's hard to explain b/c they're not tight or anything, but the lack of arch support is a problem. plus b/c they're totally unstructured i feel like i'm clomping around like frankenstein in them.

I love the first pair.  I think part of it maybe because my great grandmother use to wear them all the time and she would buy them for us. At the time I hated them, but now I love them. They are so comfy.

i prefer the first ones...i used to wear those shoes all the time back in jr. high and high school... but honey's right, there's really no support in them whatsoever.  and they tend to wear quickly since they're fabric (maybe because i wore them almost every day?)...but they're cute casual shoes and they're cheap!

The cheap factor is definitely a strong selling point for me!


I think I'm going to buy them on Friday (when I've gotten paid) and maybe my Converse white low-tops too, since I've been wanting those for over a year.  Then paying over half the cost of the shoes for shipping won't seem so bad...

Wow, that's cheap.  UO's are $14, but it says promo price of $10.

UO does mark up these shoes like insane. Even better, when Pearl River opened up a branch in SoHo, the UO was literally a few blocks up the street selling these slippers for twice the price of PR. I don't know how that's possible.


I own a pair with a pink embroidered flower ($5 on Canal St, but I think they're available on Pearl River as well) and they're cute shoes, but I agree with the lack of arch support. I find it somewhat annoying so I don't wear the shoes for long. But for the price, who could aruge with them?

Oops, I should probably clarify that I wasn't posting about a choice between the 2 pictures.  I already have the pink ballet slipper (the 2nd pic); I just posted that pic for reference.

I have some of both kinds of soft flats, and I think real ballet slippers are definitely more comfortable than the little Chinese slippers (though I love them, too). Check out these decorated ballet slippers: http://www.lavoleuse.com/shoes.html


I think the idea of hand-painting them is super cute, and it might give you more options.

sorry but i really dont like the first ones.  they remind me of something a school girl would wear.  i like the shape of the second ones but see if you can find some without the elastic strap

I'm a HUGE fan of the ballet slippers as shoes idea. They are soooo cute! I've been wanting some for years and years now but have never bought any - not sure why. I have some Pearl River slippers and everyone's right about lack of support. My feet slip around in them and they aren't nearly as comfie as you might think.


I say stick with the ballet slippers or find some other, more structured flats.

I have the La Voleuse painted ballet flats- I love them and they are super cute- but not exactly comfort shoes.  I put in a doctor scholls pad but there is still very little support.  Also, the satin gets dirty easily (I have the beige ones) and doesn't breathe as well as leather.  Mia- do your ballet flats give you enough support?
