Help with Bras!
Permalink Closed

I am completely stupid when it comes to bra shopping. I went to VS yesterday to use my gc and I must have tried on every damn bra in the store and didn't know if they were fitting me right or not!

I've always been cursed with big boobs (36D) so I've never known what is the right amount of coverage from bras. I typically get the ugly bras at the bali outlet store that covers every inch of my skin because I don't know any better.

I usually get the BBV at VS but wanted to try something different but I just kept getting confused. I was liking the new very sexy push up without padding but I felt that too much of me was poping over but it was fitting me fine - no 4 boobs or anything like that.

Can anyone help? I feel weird asking a sales clerk to take a look when I'm trying on there.

thanks for the link. It was helpful with finding a fit.

Now how to I tell myself I won't fall out of a demi bra? I feel like such an old woman and so uncool.

You need to go in there and have them measure you.  I felt weird about it too but they simply wrap the tape measure around you in three different areas and tell you what size you need.  You keep your shirt on, so it doesn't feel too weird.  Then they brought me a container of "sample bras" in my size.  I tried them all on and found which styles I liked the best.  Then went and got them in the color I wanted.  I found out I was wearing the wrong size.  It had been years since I'd been measured and I'd always been buying a 38C and after being sized I found out I needed a 34D.  Trust me, it was worth getting measured!

Rar210 every time I go in there to get sized they come up with the weirdist sizes and they are always off! It is so frustrating. Last time I went in and was told I was a DDD and there is no way in hell especially since I can't fill up a DD! I think I'm just going to go back and just have it out with myself in the dressing room and about 30 bras in the 3 sizes I'm around and just look for what that website detroit gave me said.

I have also had a terrible experience with VS girls measuring me.  You'd think that people who work in a lingerie store would know how to measure bra size.  I wonder if you someone more experienced would be better at this.  I suggest going to a department store lingerie section and have someone measure you there, they can't be any worse than the VS girls.

maybe you could try going to a specialty lingerie shop in your area to get measured.

It might be worth going to another store such as Nordies or even a Macy's to be measured and fitted. Then try on a few styles. If there is a more upscale lingerie shop you could try go there too.

I never have trusted the VS salesgirls, they all seemed like such flakes in the store I shop in. I would try to be fitted else where since you at least know what size you really are. Most women do wear the wrong size bra.

BTW, that was an interesting article Detroit. Thanks!

Ls I have the exact same problem! I'm a 38 D...ugh. I used to buy VS bras but was always disappointed with the fit. I tried Frederick's and a couple other sassy places but no luck! Anyway, I found this place in the mall....dang I can't think of the name of it but they carry clothes for bigger women. Hmmm...if I remember I'll post it. Anyway, the clothes there are too big (I am very petite and short!) but they have a great selection of D cup bras!

I feel your pain...I'm a 36D (in all other brands) and I have never had any luck with VS bras.  It has been a while now since I have tried them on but, I found the D's to run really big...they would pucker on me...almost like I didn't fill them out right.  Then when I tried a C on it was way too small. Sometimes I find it helpful when trying on bras to put my shirt on over it to make sure the shape looks right.  I know it doesn't help your gc card situation (maybe look at pj's or cami's instead), but you might be better off trying to find some bras in a department store so that you can try a bunch of different brands on. I personally have had good luck with Wacol and Lillyette bras.  When you finally find do find ones you like, you should try to buy several because it really is tough to find a good fit when you have a full chest. Good Luck!

i'm about the same size as you (actually, according to the woman who measured me at vs, i'm between a 34dd and a 36d...great, thanks.) and i've got two of these bras and i love them:

http://www2.victoriassecret.com/commerce/application/prodDisplay/?namespace=productDisplay&origin=onlineProductDisplay.jsp&event=display&prnbr=MH-174311&cgnbr=OSBRPANGZZZ&rfnbr=377&page=1&cgname=OSBRPANGZZZ

they're pretty comfy, no quad-boob, nice amount of lift and support...

and don't even bother with demis.  i love them and always end up buying them and not wearing them, because i *do* pop out of them, and it's just not comfortable (or flattering)...i think unless your boobs are fake, demis don't work on large cups.

well...i don't have one on today, but i'll try to remember...the actual cup part doesn't even come up over my nipple, i don't think (you can kinda see that it ends about halfway up and the rest is just lace)...actually, it pretty much fits me like it fits her in the picture...except it looks like she's spilling over a little, and i don't (or that could just be the airbrushing)..  my one complaint is that the straps slip off my shoulders sometimes, but that happens with every bra i wear, and it stops after adjusting the strap.  hope i helped (without being too graphic).

Yes thank you! It actually cleared up the whole confusion I got yesterday at the store. BTW have you tried the new very sexy ones w/o padding. It was amazing. My boobs have never been so high as they were yesterday. I just didn't really like the price. $47

lsu--i recently had a very similar experience at vs--trying to use a gc, nothing fitting, everything overpriced (imo) and i say this w/ love because my first job ever was as a vs salesgirl but so many of them just measure WRONG.  like not making any kind of sense at all!  not saying they're all like that but i wouldn't count on being measured correctly at vs.  so w/ that said, i used my gc to get a long terry robe (which i love, btw) and went to nordies to bra shop (they were having their semi-annual sale at the time).  and that's when i found the most true to size brand ever....WACOAL.  seriously, it's great.  and the nordies girl helping me measured me perfectly, but also gave me bras of varying sizes to try on to make sure.  total success, i bought like six (for really cheap too b/c of the sale).  so try on a bunch of Wacoal bras and i'm sure you'll find the perfect one.  good luck!

Esquiress!  I have a friend who ONLY wears Wacoal bras.  Each time I see them, I can't help but think that they're really frumpy.  Not sexy at all.  Are they really that great?

Sorry to hi-jack your tread lsu_batgirl.

Its completely ok fireball. I've wondered the same thing about warcoal. I'm just tired of the so unsexy bras. I want something fun, young, and sexy! We bigger girls want to have fun too!

fireball, for pretty/sexy bras Fellina is the best.  for comfort and a nice line under clothes i rec. Wacoal.  i think it was trixie that was just raving about the smooth line and comfort of the Wacoal convertible and that's the one i wear (it's like, my everyday bra).  it's nude, smooth, no padding but doesn't show any nipple (maybe tmi, sorry!) through clothes.  but yeah, the style i tried on to determine size was a very old lady style imo but the fit was fab!  and i was just trying to determine my size so it really helped.  also it pains me to say this but back in the day, vs used to be much better, now i just feel like their bras are made from cheap materials and poorly constructed but they're still charging just as much!  everytime i go in there i can't get over how cheapie it looks and feels since i used to work there.  the environment used to be classy and understated and now it's garish and feels more like fredericks or something!  not that there's anything wrong w/ fredericks, but vs and frederick's used to be much different from each other.
