The Chunnel is not that. I get freaked out on this like- being above the water and below- but most people who are not neurotic seem to think it is fine.
I like staying in the Latin Quarter. There are a lot or really neat things around there to do. By the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower are nice too. It is very cool being able to look out your window and see the Eiffel tower outside. Like every major city there are bad areas, but you always seem to be very close to a metro station, so you can just hop on and go wherever you like. As long as you are near a major landmark then you will be good.

the chunnel is totally fine. you don't even know you're under water except for when it gets darker for about 10-20 minutes. i took it abuot 3 times a few years ago. it's fast and great to leave the city and end up in the city. go for it.
In Paris I have a strong left bank preference. I like Montparnasse or the latin quarter/st germaine (my favorite restaurants and shops are on the left bank... but it's still not hard to walk across the river to see the sights of the right bank as well).
I am currently debating going next weekend... my sister might be there for work starting Sunday or monday so I might take a long weekend.

dc, can you give me the names of some of the stores you like? I'll most likely be honeymooning there in the fall, and I'm always interested in checking out new little boutiques.
Thanks.

I like the Marais a lot. It's the gay/Jewish neighborhood and has a lot of little stores and restaurants. As well as the Picasso Museum.
I also like St. Germain/the Latin Quarter. That's where I lived when I was there. There are lots of cute shops, is close to a lot of things, and the Jardin du Luxembourg is nice to walk around in.
