is tavern on the green worth it?

we are going to NYC for a few days.   my hubby hasn't been to NYC ever, and i have only been once.

should we go to tavern on the green?  is it a place you must go once in your life?  from the photos, it doesn't seem to be somewhere we'd choose if it weren't so famous...

i'm on the fence.

My instinctive answer is no...the food is not that great and if from the pictures you don't even like the looks of it then I would skip it totally.  If anything, for a great central park experience go have a drink at the boat house.  Maybe some of the other girls have a different opinion but I've been twice and remember thinking "Wow this is really tacky, and I'm glad I'm not paying for the food."

For the money you'd spend at Tavern you can have a fabulous dining experience somewhere else in the city.

I agree -- TOTG isn't worth it. You're better off getting a drink at the Campbell Apt. (in Grand Central and a total blast) and then having dinner somewhere swank.

Not worth it unless someone else is paying for it.
