So I am startiung the new year by eating healthier. Not to lose weight, but just to take care of my body a little more. But the problem is I can't find cookbooks that have any good recipes in them. So can anyone suggest cookbooks that are focused more on eating right for your body sake not for dieting purposes. Thanks!
i refer to the moosewood restaurant's cooks at home and low fat favorites a lot. that's all i can think of now, but i would also suggest subscribing to a magazine like vegetarian times. their recipes are healthy plus there are great articles about nurtrition and health. (and most recipes probably could have meat substituted in for whatever protein they call for if you wanted)
also, read dc's post from yesterday about eating like a french woman:
I agree with the vegetarian times. Look for seafood cookbooks too. Fish is so good for you. I was a vegetarian for years, but I realized I wasn't eating enough fat (omega fats). I tried flax seed, but it was too much work, so I started eating seafood every now and then. But try not to eat large ocean fish like sea bass on a regular basis, because they can have high levels of mercury. Try going to your local health food store and check out what they have. Try to find some asian cookbooks, specifically Japanese. I read an article a few years ago in Veg. Times (I think) about Okinawa, and their diet is extremely healthy. Good for you for going healthy!! :)
Ooh you can broil tilapia. It is cheap and easy. You get it in the frozen section of Walmart. Just get some dry seasoning to sprinkle on top. Very low cal and low fat.
cooking light magazine has some really good recipes! they are usually easy to fix. They might have a website with recipes on it as well or you could subscribe or copy some down at Barnes and Nobles.
The South Beach cookbook has some good recipes in it as well.
