are you wearing the suit to an interview?  if so, what kind of interview? a creative industry ( i.e. advertising, fashion, entertainment, etc.) or a more conservative one ( i.e. business, law, etc.)?

if it's an interview for a job in a traditionally conservative industry, i say a skirt suit w/ pantyhose and closed toe shoes.  as for what kind of skirt, whatever fits best but nothing too tight.  hth!

She took the words right out of my mouth! Always a skirt suit for a first interview. Pants for second, IMO.

If you are wearing a skirt suit I'd wear the hose especially if its an interview. You don't want to look sloppy or unprofessional (you never know what people think)

I've always worn pants for interviews. It's just easier for me -- I don't have to worry about hose running and I can wear my most comfy dress shoes (they look weird with a skirt, and I don't want to have to worry about my feet hurting). I think that if the pants are well-tailored and are part of the suit (match the jacket), it's ok.

i work in a creative industry and have always worn suits with pants for interviews.  when the interviewer is more likely than not to be wearing jeans, a skirt suit could get you branded right off the bat as "out of touch."  so esquiress is right--it absolutely depends on the circumstances.

thank you for your input ladies!

the suit is for an interview- i have a black jacket, pants, and skirt from express this past fall. I am studying/interning in london this quarter and for my work placement, i got placed with shu uemura!!!!! which is owned by loreal, to work in PR.

I still have to interview with the company, of course, and my internship advisor told me to wear a suit, but I am going to the interview (which is at 5 pm) right after my program orientation, so whatever I wear I will have to wear all day long and possibly while out in bad weather.

knowing this, what do you suggest?

Thanks!

Hmm since you have to be in it all day I'd go with the black jacket and pants with a nice button up shirt underneath.  Good luck!

that sounds fab!! congrats and good luck!  i second lsu--black blazer and pants should be fine.  also, do you have any pointy toed heels?  they'd really pull the look together, imo.  although if you're worried about comfort, you may just want to wear other shoes during the day and slip on the heels right before the interview.
