I've decided over the weekend that I really hate MAC eyeshadow. The colors are wonderful, but the quality is horrible IMO. I have a hard time blending it in, it tends to drop access all over my cheeckbones and it just doesn't make me a happy girl.
I am intrigued by Chanel eye shadow. It's sooooo silky to the touch, although I've only played with it at the counter without actually trying it on my eyes. I also love the fact that it comes in a quad. I'm kind of lazy and I like when colors are already grouped for me. I'm not a huge fan of the Lancomes or the Estee Lauders, but it has been a while since I've tried those.
At any rate, please give my your favorites with a quick explanation of why you like the particular brand.
I also love Urban Decay but I tend to hate the ones with glitter in them because I manage to get the glitter all over my face. The colors are great though. I have midnight cowboy (love/hate b/c of glitter), sin (similar to midnight cowboy but no glitter - love), roadstripe (nonglitter love), and stalker (some glitter but I can control it)
I also like Stila but I only have one of their eyeshadows so I can't really judge them. I like what I've seen out of the one I have.
Stila's good, and when they have the little trios they're usually lovely. Nars is great, the textures are soooo soft.
I like MAC for the colors and staying power but they are definitely a pain to blend and kind of messy to apply. I use those for more dramatic looks and Stila or Nars for everyday.
my favorite eyeshadow is Fresh. I posted this on Fashionhag, but I bought the Stage Door palette and it is all that i've been using on my eyes. Very blendable, cool earthy colors, some shimmer but doesnt migrate. They sell individual shadows that are also very nice according to makeupalley.
I love MAC and have ahd very little problem with staying issues, although I do tend to use a Shadestick underneath so that the shadow has something to adhere to. If you use a base, you shouldn't have the eyeshadow migrating onto your cheeks anymore.
I also like Stila, although I've only had it on when I've been given a makeover. The staying power is good and the shadows are flashy enough but not as much as the MAC. I don't like the limited color selection, though.
I also have some newer GWP Lancome eye sahdow quads and they seem to be pretty nice for neutral colors. The styaying power is good and there's very little shimmer so I could wear it to a conservative office gathering or business dinner or some such thing.
nars for everyday and makeup forever for night. makeup forever is really hard to find but i think you can find it in sephora stores, not sure about online. the colors are fabulous, and very highly pigmented so a little goes a loong way. but it's a line made for professionals and the star powders aren't the most user-friendly. so i guess nars would win in terms of ease in application, esp. the creme-based shadows. have fun experimenting!
I love Lancome and Chanel, easy to blend and the color stays true. Since I have oily lids I use Benefit's FY Eye, which helps the color stay on longer.
I LOOOOOOOVE MAC!! I think their colors are gorgeous and there is so much much variety. The pigment is awesome and it stays on my lid for a long time too. I don't think its hard to blend them at all...I love all the different looks you can get with their eye shadows. Hands down, my fave!
I probably have to say Stila. From what I've tried, I have been really impressed with the staying power of even the lightest color. I bought a small palette from Stila with two colors, a nice silver and a dark grey and they quickly became my favorite eyeshadow colors.
As for Nars, I do own an eyeshadow color from them- Night Fairy
I was a little disappointed with the Nars eyeshadow, though, the colors are either really bright or really sheer IMO. But the compacts are adorable, especially because of the tiny mirror (so helpful!).
As for MAC, I've never tried, so I have no opinion...yet.
I've really been into bobbi brown lately. I bought two pallates, one day one for night and it's all I use. Staying power is awesome, very neutral colors for day but just makes you look polished. Very blendable, but stays on till you take it off. The charcoal pallate I just bought for night is awesome too, but I'm still experimenting w/ that one...very blendable, but it still lands on my cheeks.
