Winkees review for Erin, XtinaStyles, ....?
Permalink Closed

I'm getting too frustrated looking back at the old weekend shopping posts and the search function is not helping me. I know a couple people asked me to review these and I think two were Erin and XtinaStyles? Sorry if I got that wrong!

Anyway, today is my first day wearing my "winkees," which are weird fabric things meant to look like a cami under lower-cut tops, etc:

They are not really as amazing as I thought they'd be. First of all, the way you attach them are with these little sticker things. It took a long time to do all these stickers this morning, and I don't like that I would have to continually buy these stickers if I want to keep wearing the winkees. I got enough little stickers with each one to wear it like three times. It's not the end of the day so I haven't removed the stickers yet, but they look like they will be annoying and difficult to remove tonight.

I got two styles, one that was ruched (in the picture above) and one with lace on the top. The ruching looks really bad. It's like, flattened. I don't know how to describe it. The directions say to pull these tabs (the corners of the "triangle" that you put the stickers on) around the straps and the center gore of your bra. I tried it on with this bra:

(so, not a *huge* center gore) and the tabs couldn't even get around it. I just had to use the sticker and stick it to my bra. Like, it seems like it would only work with bras that have more of a plunging neckline, which kind of defeats the purpose for busty ladies (who usually have less plunging bras) who want to cover up cleavage.

And maybe I should've thought of this, but I'm wearing a wrap dress today. It's not crazy low - I wear something underneath at work but if I go out to dinner or something, I don't - but if I bend over or bend funny, I come dangerously close to showing off my bra anyway.

I hate to say it, but I think I'll be returning the one I didn't wear. This seems like it's not worth the trouble. I did find a similar product from a company called Fashion Forms, although I can't find it on the website right now. It's called "Cami Too" and I got mine at Dillard's. I know they have them at Macy's, too. I haven't really tried it out, I've only tried it on, but it seems a lot better. Simpler (you just pull it over your head and use little clips to attach to your bra straps), prettier (lacey), and more coverage if you bend over (it wraps all the way around you and your bra). The only problem is that the clips aren't big enough for my bras (I tried it on with the same bra I'm wearing with the winkee, and the clips weren't really wide enough. But it looks like they'll stay put anyway)

Sorry that was so long... I was just dissapointedashamed

you know, newport news has camisole/bras for a lot less than le mystere - I don't have any, but have thought about buying some (both have underwire and come in tons of colors):

the only thing about the newport news ones is that they come in sizes like S,M,L (last I checked). Not cup or band sizes. I don't see how that could support anyone

Thanks ttara! Too bad it didn't work out. Seriously you could take a thong, cut it at the crotch and tape it to your bra, thats probably where the Winkie was born!

The Newport News cami looks like it would defeat the purpose, since its low cut!
