Crate & Barrel Furniture - opinions?
Permalink Closed

Does anyone know what the quality of Crate & Barrel furniture is like? I've been looking for a dresser for like ever (I don't like the one that matches my bed) and I found two on their website.

Blake4DrawerChest3QF04?$lg$

Tasteful, linear bedroom storage in solid plantation-grown teak. Substantial chest is built to last with classic wood-on-wood joinery and a rich espresso hand-finish. Four generously sized drawers sport horizontal cast brass pulls with an aged patina.

The trim, linear look of our Giselle case pieces is a handsome counterpoint to the curves of the sleigh bed. Still, the lines remain graceful, the wrap-around double beading detail is carried through in each piece, and the corners are softened around the edges. Masterfully crafted of solid and veneered mahogany, with the beautiful grain visible beneath the luxurious ebony finish. Simple solid brass handles have an antiqued finish.

Medium ebony finish
Five drawers (three large, two small)
Metal undermount drawer glides with stops
See dimensions below

I like the style of the second one a bit more, plus the finish is almost exactly the same as my my bedroom furniture (although I don't know for sure, I haven't had time yet to go look at them in the store).

Can anyone vouch for the quality? The first one is solid wood and has wood-on-wood joinery, but the second one has engineered wood.

Thanks!

Also, does anyone know what kind of furniture the outlets stock?

DH and I have a lot of furniture from C&B. We have both the lower-end stuff (assemble it yourself), as well as higher-end stuff (comes fully assembled). We're very happy with the quality and appearance of both types. We have bookcases, a fold-out sofa, and two cabinets, both with glass fronts. Also, the color of the wood and the consistancy of the grain are very good. We have the dark wood stains on everything. The delivery was also good -- right on time and no complaints by the delivery guys about lugging all this furniture up three flights of narrow stairs. I recommend C&B w/out reservation. HTH

edited to add: I don't know about their outlet furniture -- there are no C&B outlets around where I live (that I know of). I would NOT recommend CB2, however. Their stuff is like a cross between Ikea and West Elm. Blech.

I've had a few pieces from Crate and Barrel and never had a problem, that said some of the "wood" pieces that have recently caught my eye in the catalog or online have dissapointed me in person.  I would definately check out both options in the store if you can before buying.

Both pieces look nice from a style perspective...I would probably be more inclined to go with the solid wood option.

They just closed the outlet near me, the furniture was always pretty hit and miss...most of the time there wasn't a huge selection and much of it was pretty dinged up.  Several times a year they would have a "furniture warehouse sale"  and the options were better then, but you would have to get there early for best selection and arrange for pick-up /delivery yourself.

We have some crate and barrel furniture and really like it. In fact we had a new piece delivered yesterday and we love it!

We have a dining table and a sideboard from Crate and Barrel. Oh, a rocking chair too. I think the quality of the pieces is very good. I had problems with delivery 2 out of 3 times though. (scratch on the table, dirt on the upholstery of the chair) Had to send the items back and schedule a re-delivery which was a pain but it all worked out in the end. I'd buy from them again.

Thanks ladies! Once finals are over I'll go to the store and see if they have either piece to look at in person.
