I'm confused about airline restrictions for liquids/1 qt bags
Permalink Closed

I'm flying tomorrow for the 1st time in years. I've been pouring over the TSA guidelines, but i'm still confused. Am I supposed to put deodorant, blush, mascara, concealer, lipstick in the 1 qt bag of liquid items or do they fall into a seperate category?

And can I use a 2nd 1 qt bag for non liquids, such as Q-tips, vitamins, barrettes etc? Or am I only allowed to have one bag?

Sorry, I have hayfever and i'm feeling extra dense.confused

mascara, concealer and lipstick go in the bag because ther're liquid.

blush, q-tips and whatnot you can do whatever you want with. If you want to put them in a bag, you can, but you dont need to show that to the agents.

This is precisely why I just check it all in a bag...

The ONLY liquid I carry through security is my chapstick and lip gloss....and I have never even had to pull them out of my purse into a baggie.

The rules intimidate and confuse me too, so I just avoid the issue all together!

Lip gloss, shampoo, mascara, sunscreen, or any other liquids you're carrying on have to be in a one quart bag (each container in the bag has to be less than 3 or 4 oz, too).  Just put it in your carry on bag so it can be easily pulled out to go through the x-ray at security (not every airport requires you to remove it from your bag anymore).

Don't forget that the liquid restrictions apply to water bottles, too.  Even unopened ones can't go through security.  You have to either bring an empty one through and fill it somewhere, or buy one after you're through screening.

I once downed a whole 1L bottle of Evian because I was too cheap to throw it away ashamed
