Currently my hair is cut in lengths but overall it is long with the longest length being to the bottom of my shoulder blades.  For a couple of months I have been thinking that I would like to get it cut short.  The hairstyle I really like is Jenny McCarthy's asymetrical bob, but right now it is impossible to do my hair that way  because my bangs aren't long enough.

Then, I thought about this one that Katie Holmes has, but I don't really like the curled under bangs.  I am afraid I would look 12 years old.

I am not just set on a bob, so could you girls post pics of short hairstyles that you like?  I think I am ready for a change.  My hair is a medium brown color if that helps.  Hey, if I hate it once I get it cut, I can always grow it back out., or I can buy some extensions at Sally's.

I have a mix of these two haircuts (and am medium-brown) myself!

Mine is a little less angled than Jenny McCarthy's, not quite so much shorter in back than in front.  I also have the ends razored a bit, which for me kills the waviness that messes up this look!  I don't have blunt bangs like Katie's, but longer more sideswept ones that are blended into the front of the cut.

I get mine cut on a center part so the lengths are technically the same on both sides, but changing the part sides and angles changes the look of it quite a bit.

I had trouble finding pics of this sort of cut too - all the magazine girls have such long hair these days!  I'd go with a mid-neck sort of length first, and then if you like the direction it's going you can always have her take it up a bit more when you go back in for a trim - mine's gotten progressively shorter the last 3 cuts smile.gif.

HTH!

Thanks so much for answering.  Is there a pic of your hairstyle that you can post?

Honestly, I think you end up with better results if you go in without a picture.  With a pic it always seems like the hairdresser ends up dead set on recreating the cut on you, and doesn't stop to discuss how to handle your hair.

My hairdresser and I talked about each element initially and again as she went along, with me saying more here/leave that/thin this/shorter there.  I picked two different pictures out of mags/books at the salon (similar in length and overall shape, but one was layered and the other was not at all), and said what I liked and didn't like about them.  For instance, I would love to have a perfect straight blunt bob, but when my hair isn't razored it's wavy to a fault.  Had she copied the cut out of the mag exactly, it wouldn't have looked anything like the pic and I would have been unhappy.

Better to talk it through and watch your haircut develop than walk out disappointed when it doesn't look just like the pic you brought.

Mine looks sort of like this (if I blowdry it).  It looks like her ends are razored, but I asked for the razoring to be very light and very near the ends, because IMO she looks a touch stringy there.
