need suggestions on what to wear with gold ballet flats
Permalink Closed

I'm completely drawing a blank as to what to wear with my new gold ballet flats and the whole reason I got them was because I thought they'd be so versatile!  I want a sort of effortless casual chic vibe but any and all suggestions are welcome.

Here are the shoes:

I also have a Prada big white bag with gold hardware (sorry no pic) that would go great with the shoes.  So I have the bag and shoes but am feeling totally uninspired about the rest of the outfit!  TIA!

I just treat my gold shoes as a neutral. I wear them with navy, dark greens, oranges. I probably wouldn't wear them with black pants, but I'm not really sure why. I just don't see the two of them looking chic together.

I would suggest to try them with every outfit that you might wear brown shoes with, that will probably work just as a starter.

I agree with rel rel. I wear them sort of like brown shoes. I don't think I could live without mine. They get worn a lot!

hmmm....the only time I wear brown shoes is for work outfits, which don't exactly fit with the parisian gamine look I'm going for...

Sometimes I love pairing a flashy pair of shoes with just a nicely tailored pair of black pants or dark jeans and a crisp white shirt.

I also tend to wear gold shoes with outfits that also work with brown shoes but if you don't wear a lot of brown-based outfits then I'd suggest trying what littlebean suggested - crisp dark jeans and a white shirt.  If you want a gamine look I think that would work.  Also maybe something like this, maybe with a brown or pink sweater:

Or this if you want something more summery and casual:

I also love gold flats with tweedy brown pants and a cream sweater but that's not a seasonally appropriate outfit idea - maybe try that in the fall.

If you want a dressier weekend look I think they would be cute with this kind of outfit:

Sorry to take everything from J. Crew but I was being super lazy.

Those shoes and bag would look great with a navy sundress. Also cropped skinny jeans and fitted 3/4 or short sleeve button up, kind of in an Audrey Hepburn kind of way. Knee length flowy cotton skirt and a fitted boat neck tee. I'm thinking classic chic with a modern twist.

I would wear them mainly with white, olive green, reds, and purple/plum. Like red skinny capris + white top, brass bangles. Or white skirt + purple top.

They would probably work well with leopard prints that have a lot of tan/brown in them.

I think black would be fine, especially with other gold accessories (earrings, watch, whatever). You could try them with an all-black look; I think they'd stand out. I'm thinking a black casual minidress or ankle-length black pants + black button-front shirt. All-white would be chic too.

I love the second outfit with gold flats! It really does have a Parisian vibe to it.

I like #2 too. The dress is underwhelming.

Yup, that shorts outfit is super cute! And you definitely can do better on the navy dress.

Love the shorts outfit.  I really like gold flats w/ basics...ie: denim, slim white pant/jeans, slim navy pants, a navy or white skirts and dresses, a crisp white top, a basic white tee, or striped boatneck tee..I'd also throw in a splash of yellow or orange.  I'd call the look more modern nautical than french gamine...maybe you could call it french sailor?
