We have a fake tree this year and I am looking for a good pine scent. I bought a Yankee candle and it smells good. I boutght a plug in called Wisp or something from Target and it smells awful...kind of like a cleaner or something.
I think I want to go for a pine smelling potpourri....any ideas?

While I can't offer a particular brand, I have found some great smelling potpourris in Pier One or Pottery Barn type places in their Christmas areas.
I recently bought something called "Victorian Christmas" from Treasure Island. If you have one nearby check the store out. Its beautiful with all the holiday decorations and each tree is more breathtaking then the last.
Anyway, this potpourri smells amazing. It has a piney, spicy scent and looks so pretty in the little bowls I placed it in. Small pinecones, tiny red berries and other interesting bits of greenery in it.
We have an artifical tree as well and while I don't miss the damned pine needles I do miss the scent.
Mikacat - Why don't you buy a small bottle of pine essential oil and a little essential oil burner? You can get the burners for super cheap (under $25) and pine essential oil is also not expensive. It's real pine essence and no other ingredients, so it works.
Maybe you will notice the trimmings when you come into the house after being out? Sometimes it's a subtle scent (from small trimmings) and hard to notice if you've gotten used to it without realizing.

This year we're not going to be able to get a real tree either, but, I have to have that holiday smell, so we're just going to go and pick up a couple of wreaths from the christmas tree stand tonight. We did this last year and they smelled SOOO good!
where do you get this pine essential oil? and burner? can the burner be electric--I don't want a candle one as I want something constant.

Ahh ha ha! OK, that made me laugh. Sometimes I forget I live in Hippieville and just assume this stuff is as ubiquitous everywhere else as it is here. I would try a - well, damn, we have actual 'essential oil stores' here but maybe you don't? OK, a health store - healthfood stores, crunchy places that supply organic food and things. I've bought essential oils off eBay before as well, and I know there are online stores that sell it. Pine oil isn't something like rose or jasmine that you need to be worried about quality - 100% pine oil is basically 100% pine oil, and it's inexpensive.
As for a burner you can get electric ones, I think - or you can get little ceramic rings to put on top of a lightbulb (the heat from the bulb disseminates the scent - works quite well). Again, look online, as I use a candle-based one.
