i was wondering about something, so many of my friends are starting to blog, mainly about their kids and what they do during the day, etc. i was just wondering, why do you blog? (there is no judgement behind this question, just pure curiosity!)
Because none of my irl friends are cool enough to appreciate all my inane ramblings. So I take it to the 'nets.
But no one reads my blog anyway so I suppose I'm just writing it for myself. Plus I like to read blogs too. I think they're interesting and funny. I like to know what's going on in people's lives even if I don't know them. Except for kid stuff. Hate those blogs (except Dooce, of course).

Blubirde I read your blog all the time. I read most of the blogs that the ST girls post- Squishy, Sephorablue, BQ. I'm not a creepy ST stalker or anything, I just have way too much time on my hands at work and I read a lot of blogs.

Oh! Good to know. I guess I'll start writing more regularly now. Maybe I'll do the whole "blog for 30 days" like in that article TST posted in the workout challenge. What to write about today? Hmmmm...
The blog that I have is recipes, and I started it both as a way to keep track of things that I've tried and liked (I have a tendancy to make something awesome andthne forget about it and never make it again) and as a way to share good recipes with my friends. I'm thinking about starting another blog too- mostly for myself as a creative outlet and to keep track of my thoughts. I guess its almost like my version of a scrapbook.
It's just fun. I'm so self absorbed that I completely entertain myself. It's sad really. I've only posted 5 times since i started it last year, but it's still fun. Plus, like ILC said, it's kind of an online scrapbook.
My boyfriend and I are about to do a stint of long term travel so we started the blog so that people can keep up with us while gone. Since we haven't left yet, its mostly focused on travel preparation and things mildly related to travel and stuff but with a lot of rambling.
I also read a lot of blogs, a few are STers, but I don't know everyone's site name. Maybe everyone could post that (if you feel like sharing).
Ours is www.mandyandbryan.com. Its still sort of a work in progress, but I'm trying to put up new content every day.

Me too! And then sometimes I want to comment, but don't for fear of coming off a bit too Single White Female... Plus most of my IRL friends aren't as into fashion and stuff, so reading you girls' blogs is sort of an outlet for that...people with a similar point of view as me.
i started out of pure boredom (hence the name of the site), then kept it up because my job is so, for lack of a better phrase, left-brain oriented. writing about stupid shit helps maintain some sort of balance.
i have a strange relationship with my blog (i HATE the word blog, for some reason) in that no one i know irl knows about its existence. it's a dirty cyber secret... if my friends found out about it, i might die.
I blogged a little bit last year. I guess I used it to help me organize my thoughts and let off a little steam on a subject I knew little about--leadership. I don't think anyone read it.
I was taught to be careful about what I write down. Sometimes, I worry that I'll be found out, so I don't feel completely comfortable releasing all my thoughts.
My blog is called Fourth Rung. It's about business/leadership from someone who is the least business-y person I know.
All the same reasons as everyone else mentioned. Plus I started blogging to let friends know what was going on with me, unlike an email or a phone call, if they are interested, they can just keep up with it whenever they like. I keep up with my busy cousin (who books lunches with me literally months in advance) by reading her blog, I read blogs by anyone I personally know and I love reading ST blogs when I remember.
One of my favorite first blogs I ever started reading several years ago was princessmelissa.com, she's the sassy girl from Real World New Orleans.

I blog to help keep track of things I buy and inspiration for my home and clothes. Sometimes I blog just to be silly too. I don't want my blog to be serious, so I keep politics and work out completely.
I can't stand the word "blog"...it's right up there with "panties" and "slurp" in my book. But I do have one. I started off years ago with an email journal, then switched over to livejournal and then to blogspot. I've had a few different variations, but the general idea was always a combination: a device for myself for journaling and history keeping, a form of contact for my friends and family who live all over the place, a collective place to drop all my random thoughts/likes/dislikes...and I've found that it is also a great way to hold myself accountable.
I started using Tumblr a couple months ago. It's a kind of different style of blog--more of an online scrapbook/collage/community than anything focused on writing. I used to have a normal blog but that was when I was depressed so it's kind of embarassing to look back on now. I think I'm going to stop blogging though--it's just a time suck that keeps me from doing productive stuff and particularly keeps me from doing any real writing.
the same reasons the other girls have said: I love to write (and rarely have a reason to do it), and like sharing ideas and good finds for fashion and design. Also, uh, I occasionally just get an Attack of the Rant that I just have to get out of my system. :) What are everyone else's blogs?
I just started one- I'm a wanna-be follower. That's why I did it. Or actually, because I finally got sick of saying funny things in my head and nobody laughing at them.
Dude, relrel, you totally had me going there with the first post on your blog. I thought to myself, "she has three kids??!?!?" I even came back to the forum to check that I had indeed clicked on your blog and not someone else's.
