Does anyone get sick after they work out too hard?

Blah- I've had a cold since Monday. I know something is going around, but I think I got sick because I ran 3 miles on Sunday. That is the first time I've ran that far in years, and my whole body felt tired and sore afterwards.
It seems like it makes sense that I'd get sick after over-working my body, but I hope this only happens the first time you push yourself too hard? I don't want to get sick after every hard workout (I wasn't KILLING myself during the run or anything, it was totally doable for me).

Well, you wouldn't contract a virus from the physical act of running, so no running can't 'cause' you to get sick.

However, if you overworked yourself a bit and then didn't rest enough, you'd probably be less able to fight off whatever illnesses you came into contact with.

Next time, I'd maybe take extra care with your food choices after you run, stay extra on top of the hydration, and try to get a couple extra hours of sleep that night until your body gets into the running routine again.

After some very intense workouts, I have gotten a nauseous feeling 30 min to an hour after finishing the workout.  My body would be very tired and sore like you described.  However,  its always gone away within 3 -4 hours after eating.  I think that maybe it might have been a blood sugar issue.
