Where to go?

I would love to go somewhere and hangout, be a beach bum, for like a month. Any ideas of fun cheap locations?

I don't want to go anywhere super touristy. Some friends of mine went to Bali and said it was waaay more expensive and touristy than they expected. What are some up-and-coming, less mainstream destinations?

Ahem. Ahem. Venezuela has an awesome awesome archipelago called Los Roques. Beaches and more beaches. It's doubly awesome since I'm thinking about it for this summer (but uh, when are you planning on going?) plus a good friend of mine from school has started a job at the University of West Indies (in Trinidad) and she's got a house there. I was planning on visiting her sometime in the next year/six months. Los Roques is on the northern tip of Venezuela while Trinidad is off the eastern coast.

Panama - Bocas del Toro sounds beautiful, but sadly I can't speak from experience.

Guatemala also sounds nice.

BF and I were considering opening a B&B in an up and coming beach area and we researched those two countries a bit. Costa Rica is beautiful and has great beaches but is a bit more touristy. All our research indicated Panama is the next Costa Rica.

Cartahena, Colombia also looks cool. Its a colonial city on the coast.
