ISO a Vacation destination

BF just told me today that he would to take me on a vacation this summer and I get to pick the place. Now I need to figure out where! Here are some of the requirements:

  • going in mid-june
  • Out of the country (not europe... BF lives there now and doesn't want to vacation there)
  • Relaxing (For BF)
  • Some theater or dance... or at least things to do so I don't get bored (for me)
  • Interesting

One of our choices so far is the seychelles... but its not really based on anything. I also thought bali would be cool, but is it safe with the bombings that happened a few years ago?

This is our first real vacation together and we dont get to see each other as much now that he has moved to europe so this is something we are both looking forward to!

I posed a similar question last year -- I ended up boiling it down to Croatia or the Turkish Mediterranean because they have beautiful natural features and tons of history and activities.

We ended up going to Maui (got a discount on the frequent flier tickets and I had never been there.)

I don't travel in the states for pleasure very much, and I'm used to dealing with the challenges of foreign countries when I take a vacation.  The nice thing about going to Maui, was that it is soooo American!  When we go to foreign beaches, I always feel like the fat American (even when I was at my thinnest!) In Maui, I didn't have to deal with "not fitting in" -- although I was pasty white and fat in my bikini, I totally fit in. It was nice being able to talk to anyone I wanted to as well...

I know my response is a bit scattered, but those are my recommendations -- Croatia or the Turkish Mediterranean for a foreign beach destination, and Maui for one big American beach party...
